Max Good - I value the hell out of your reviews. It is the gold standard because I can see it, you articulate it and you take outside input and implement them into your test equations. Heck, I even bought a less than stellar cooker awhile back because it was cheaper. I had no internet in the store. When I used it I found that it's limitations matched exactly what you said they would be. I laughed at myself after for not doing my research.
I hope that a lot of the vitriol caused by some people's dissatisfaction with this product is not somehow directed towards you. It seems to be the story of the day(s) and has be one of the most intriguing topics I have followed, short of beans in chili ( texastweeter - HA). Keep up the good work and know that whatever you write about it (a lot of good stuff so far) I will consider to be the gold standard in testing. It in no way discredits what other members say about their personal experiences because I know you are reading them, attempting to replicate any problems and are taking your time to give us an unbiased opinion based on your experience as a tester.Last edited by tbob4; March 6, 2020, 12:18 PM.

ItsAllGoneToTheDogs That’s how I look at the reviews. Over the years I’ve come to trust Max Good and his reviews. They’re one of the reasons that swayed me to join this group.
I’ve used them to help make decisions...and, perhaps more so, to help my friends find the best for their needs/wants. That said, I ALWAYS give more weight to products that he has personally tested over "Looked at closely" even though I’m certain he wouldn’t just throw his name on any old thing...because reputations are hard earned. And Mr. Good has worked hard to earn his. But there is indeed a certain comfort in knowing that he actually used whatever product is in question. I realize that not everything can get that sort of in depth/hands on research...thus my added weight to those products he HAS used. FWIW, many of the "Looked at closely" stuff wasn’t on my short list when researching anyway. Though knowing what I know now...that may have changed given a "hands on" review.

Echoing others, I started using the reviews here quite a while before I joined, and even longer before I started actually posting myself. I trust the reviews here far more than those on other sites, or some guy on youtube who got a free piece of equipment to try out, and thinks it's great.
I'm not going to be in the market for a new smoker or grill anytime soon, but I am following the developments on the SF because as I expected, the regional chain of farm fleet stores my son is a manager for (Bomgaars, if you are in the western Iowa/Dakotas/Nebraska region) will be selling them. It's in the Summer sales book (not out for general distribution yet). So far, all he knows is what is "in the book" but I'm both hoping by the time they actually stock them they'll have some fixes, and I'm wondering what, if anything, they are going to tell the guys who will be selling them, or dealing unhappy customers when someone has an issue.

Ooh, I don’t envy him in that regard. That could be a hard sell given some of the negative publicity that Weber has faced. That said, most people that are happy don’t tend to proclaim that from the rooftops. A lot will depend on how Weber responds. Personally, I think it was a misstep in their marketing claims. Seems they overstated some of the capabilities...especially with regards to grease and ash management. I think this was perhaps a case of the marketing guys getting behind the cart.
