looking for a review of grill rescue brush

Anyone ever use a grill rescue brush? I have people looking for "cheap" grill gifts and this one looks like it could pull double duty on the grill as well as the blackstone. I did a quick search but I only found one mention from last summer when it was kickstarter project.

The idea is to deglaze grill grates.

I just looked at their web page. It's a cheap plastic handle that holds what appear to be a sponge that you dip in water, get your grates screaming hot then let the water steam clean the grates. OK maybe it kind of works but $50 ?? What a rip off. I actually invested in a steam cleaner, it only cost me about $100 and it cleans the heck out of greasy everything.

I was thinking the same thing, but then I read more about it. Apparently, the sponge is aramid cloth covered, which I would suspect is what is driving up the cost.

I often make this recommendation. Just dip your wire brush in water and scrub your hot grates. It cleans the grates and the brush. Make sure your brush is dry before you put it away.

I have one of these, a buddy of mine gave it to me for Christmas last year. It actually works well with "steaming off goop" on the grill. The handle is heavy duty, it’s not cheap plastic. And you get two cleaner attachments to use that are made out of fire hose like material. Heavy duty stuff. I don’t use it every time I use my gasser, so I still have not switched out to the second brush head, I also keep it outside under the lid of the grill to store and it has held up. The key is to get the brush head soaked with water so it steams. First few times I used it, I thought "what a joke! This thing is horrible!" But, I didn’t have the brush head wet enough. I now bring a bowl of water outside with me and dunk after every few passes and that is the secret. That and a hot grill grate.

So, here’s my verdict - would I have purchased this on my own - no, because, i just wouldn’t have. I have one of those circular steel bristle brushes that works well for right after a cook. But the combo of the two keeps my grates clean and sometimes you need the extra deep cleaning.

I don’t know what the cost was when my buddy picked one up, he also got one for himself, so maybe it was a two for one deal? But it works and is well made, not cheap plastic or material.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

STEbbq it has so far, but I don’t use it every time. It is discolored and has indentions from the heat, but the materials is still holding tough. I did get two brush heads with this, so you should have some time with both.

Yeah, seems like a lot of user errors on Amazon. That pic of the brush that is ruined after a few uses looks like he never washed it.

STEbbq I don’t see any review photos on the link, but the video is pretty good. I actually press down harder than what he shows in the video, so perhaps I’m pressing a bit to hard. I haven’t washed mine yet, I guess I can try that to get some of the black off. But I do think a combo of this brush and the circular wire brush works great together. I saw another link, many said the brush head falls off often. I have yet to have that happen.

I have a circular wire brush idea as well that I got on Amazon Prime for $20 (2 pads) that I use as a regular scrapper. I also soak the head in water and apply to my hot grates (both regular and grillgrate's). As long as the grates are very hot, you get lots of steam. Of course, the wire my wear out faster than the ones you are looking at, but I can use them without doing the water/steam as well, so seems like a better option to me. They are named: Tool Wizard Toolwiz, Grill Brush with Extra Scrubber.

The bundles they are offering on their website are well, substantially cheaper than Amazon...

Yeah, they have some eye-catching advertising for what is...a grill brush. You gotta wonder what they'd do if they launched a full grill.

I ordered the two grill brushes + 4 scraper heads for $52 shipped off Grill Rescue's website using their Black Friday code. That makes the cost pretty darn cheap. I will report back with a review once I've had a chance to try it out.
