    Which AMAZEN Tube to Buy?

I'm going to get an AMAZEN tube to add some smoke flavor to my Grilla. I was wondering which tube to buy? There are 6" tubes, 12" tubes and two sizes of expandable tubes (7-12 and 12-18)

I would also use it in my gas grill.

12” or one of the expandable types. The 12” can be used half full...or foil can be stuffed into to make it smaller, but the 6” just isn’t as versatile IMO. And FWIW, I have the 6, 12, and 18 inch versions. The 12” is by far the most used.

The expandable types weren’t available when I got all mine or I’d probably have the 7-12” in the mix.

It seems as if biggest should always be the bestest, but for most of the cooks I do, I only need smoke for several hours at most. I have the rectangular "maze" version, and I've never needed to fill the entire maze with pellets. Only 1/3 to 1/2 of the maze is plenty fine for the way I cook.

In case you're looking at the maze, I'd advise against it. And I can't see I'd need an 18" tube either. I'd probably go for a 12" tube or a 7-12" adjustable tube. Whichever was cheaper and readily available. (Don't buy 'em at Cabelas / Bass Pro -- last time I was there, I noticed the markup on the tube they had in stock was atrocious.)

Yeah, I have a "maze" as well...it was a gift...used once I think. Not nearly as effective as a tube in my experience. Light it...get it to smoke/smoulder and then foomp, up it went and burned up the pellets twice as fast as a tube. That’s why I didn’t bring that one up in my reco. LOL

Don't have to fill the larger ones completely full, but there is more room if wanted.

I can't ever get them to work so I don't recommend them personally. Of course my wife thinks I' a dolt, so there's that.

I have one of the expandable ones, and I really like it. The key to a good light is to use a butane torch to light as described in the instructions, and then let it burn with a flame for a full 10 minutes before you blow it out (Troutman).

There is a chart on page 5 of this manual that talks all about the different burn times you can get out of the different sizes. It should tell you which one you will be most happy with: https://dj4htnsq11to6.cloudfront.net...NLY_2_5_19.pdf

Oh yeah! I light mine with a butane or map torch and it works a treat.

I have the 12" and it works well when lit with a small torch.

Thanks all for the great information! I think I'll look for a 7-12" tube or a 12" tube.

I think I'm a member of that club. I'm going to give it a go. I have finally come to accept that my pellet grill is efficiently using my smoke source as fuel and if I want more smoke I have to add it.

Yep, pellet cookers are a bit too efficient IMO.

You might also consider Mo's Smokin Pouch. It lays flat with more wood surface exposed to heat.

Oh yeah...and while I think it’s a MUST HAVE for most pellets cookers. I think pellet cookers are possibly too efficient for their own good. Thus needing that little extra that a tube can bring. (Camp Chef agreed with me on an IG post some time ago.)

I also think they’re great for things like smoking cheese or nuts...for EVERY grill/smoker.
There’s almost no heat coming off of them...so one doesn’t need to wait for winter or get crazy with ice/frozen water(milk) jugs in order to smoke cheese nearly year round. (Unless ya live in AZ, then all bets are off. LOL)
