Spatter Screens: Anything better out there?

I use the aluminum screen sort of spatterscreen, very cheap, doesn't last long if husband puts it in the dishwasher and something pokes it during the wash, but as I said, cheap.

A few months back I almost got a Frywall (comes in 8", 10" and 12" sizes) from Amazon. It's still in my cart.

I noticed this morning that pkadare used one in his SUWYC post. So right away my kitchen gadget MCS kicked into high gear. Not wanting to hijack the SUWYC topic, I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone got a Frywall and like it? Or any other spatter screen that works better than the "Peppy and Cheap" (Gary Marshall in Soapdish) one I already use?

Here's a link to the Frywall 10" size and a photo:

Well thanks a lot Kathryn. 😣😁😁 After seeing these Frywall’s I now have have the 10” and 12” in my cart.
And for some reason I don’t feel bad about it.
    🤔😃

Ohgosh, we're both in the same boat now, Steve B ! The last Amazon box that was delivered, I told my husband it was from my "cousin". Named Amazon, I thought to myself, as I carried my loot away from his prying eyes.

Best solution I have ever found for kitchen splatter is to invest in an outdoor griddle... lol. Seriously!!!

      That’s where I’m at as well. I have 2 BlackStone’s. A 36” and the 17”.

I have my new Camp Chef Somerset IV which has a griddle option, outdoors. I love using it! But every now and again I actually have to use my kitchen cooktop.

You already know my thoughts on the Frywalls, but I'll repeat them here. I love these things! As I said, they don't totally eliminate all splatter all of the time, but they do a great job at reducing it. I only get splatter now if I've got lots of grease in a pan and the heat is medium high or above. Even then it is just a simple wipe up, not OMG, the stove top looks like an oil spill has happened.

Donw curious how you made a mess making ghee?🤔

Steve B Well you follow the serious eats recipe, and try to filter thru a coffee filter and then it breaks so all the solids plop back into the ghee. So you pour back into the pot and repeat meanwhile spilling some on every transfer. I got to invest in some cheese cloth.🤔

Donw Try this method. This is how I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now. https://youtu.be/GnDeLFrQy54

I use a metal screen that folds in half. That way I can lift up a portion to stir or check without taking the screen completely off. This isn’t perfect though since opening half still allows a lot of splatter. I’m really intrigued by the posts on the Frywall.

I use this. Think I got it at Amazon. Works real well. You can see I abused it a bit. Mainly on grill frying something in CI pan. Click image for larger version

I looked at that style but was afraid it would trap too much steam while it was containing the spatters. Not a problem for you?

Steam emits through the holes. Oil doesn't.

I have a couple stainless steel spatter screens. If I remember correctly I got them at Kitchen Collection in the mall. I’ve had them for at least a couple of years. I always clean them in the dishwasher.

Yours look way better than my spatter screens do. I've only been using this cheapie set for a few months and they're dinged and discolored. Thanks for the tip.

I am with you, I got tired of those flimsy screens. I use a Fissler Hook-In Spatter Shield.

This one is solid and it is way easier to clean. It works well too.

Wife bought one of the silicone ones and we love it, virtually indestructible. She even drains bacon on it on top of the CI skillet

mountainsmoker My wife got ours at TJ Maxx for ~$9, but it's here on Aamzon https://www.amazon.com/ExcelSteel-Si...mazingribs--20 ~$15 and some change brand is ExcelSteel, although I'm not sure to be honest if this exact same design goes by other names like many products do, the device itself doesn't have any brand markings.
