while looking on Amazon for a tool needed to replace a valve cartridge in a bathtub, I came across this nifty toy. So I ordered it. It actually works quite well. https://smile.amazon.com/Fbest-Outdo...mazingribs--20

Oh, and if you can’t get that stubborn cartridge out, use a hair dryer. Found that tip online years ago and it actually worked.

The puller tool should work. Hopefully it won’t be that much trouble. There is a chance I can extract it without the puller, but I’m not counting on that.

I believe the tool you are referring to is a "drain key"? Wait no you said valve not drain, so was it a valve wrench?

I had to use the hair dryer and puller tool together. Finally worked.

For smoking, I am a committed stick burner.
For grilling, it's all about charcoal. Almost always HEB brand mesquite charcoal. If not that, then Kingsford mesquite charcoal.

A few years ago I bought one of those manual blowers similar to the one Smoky Gator is showing. The big difference was that it was all plastic and utter crap - didn't even last a couple months. I then bought one that was run by one D cell battery. It too was too plastic-y and total crap.
Since then I've just been using one of those old style traditional bag bellows type to stoke a fire on startup. Works great - no plastic gears or crappy motors.
I do have an old CPAP machine that the electronics fried but the fan is still good. I've had a project in mind to take the fan out of that and rig it up with a battery pack and an old CPAP hose and a length of copper pipe. That idea has been on the back burner for a few years but I should probably move that project to a front burner. After all, my bag bellows is likely to crap out in another 10 or 15 years.
