    Bale Lid Mason Jar Question

Gots me some ol Atlas, an Ball glass lid Mason jars I'd like to put back into Active Duty, mainly fer storin dry rubs, etc., not preservin foods.

Anybody got a good source fer replacement bale assemblies? Lotta th old jars, like I have, bales, etc. done rusted away, probly when I was still in diapers.

    Quality repop is fine...

Wally World tends to carry a good selection of canning supplies.

I can't find a source for the wire bales either, @Mr. Bones

This company is a hop and a skip away from me. They sell the rubber gaskets -- https://www.kitchenkrafts.com/produc...skets-set-of-6

Here's an article that explains why bale and gasket jars are not recommended for home canning -- https://www.healthycanning.com/bail-type-lids/

But the actual wire bales to go on the jars ... I'm not coming up with anything for ya. Here's an Amazon listing but the item is not available. And I don't know if it would fit your jars even if it was available for sale -- https://www.amazon.com/Bormioli-Fido...dp/B00IIU8PG0/

Here's some on Ebay . . . A bit expensive to my liking. I'd say get some wire of the right gauge and bend some up. Maybe with some kind of simple jig.

As an alternative to the bale lids style jars, I use the Ball Jar vacuum sealer attachment of my Food Saver. I pulls the air out of the jar and create a vacuum seal using standard Ball jar lids and bands. I store my spices, herbs, and rubs in them and they last a pretty long time.

Wow, Bkhuna , I didn't realize that a Ball Jar Vacuum Sealer Attachment kit was available from FoodSaver. It looks like a handy addition.

Foodsaver says: To use, place the item to be vacuum packaged inside the mason jar, place the mason jar lid on top of the jar, push the Jar Sealer down firmly until it covers the entire rim of the jar, insert one end of the accessory port onto the FoodSaver appliance and the other end on top of the sealer, then vacuum seal

You're welcome. One benefit of using the Food Saver vacuum sealer attachment is that the lids are reusable many times because they don't get heated. You can't use it for proper canning, but for extended storage, it can't be beat.

          Will these work?

These are original Bormioli Fido Replacement Bale Wires. They fit jars 500ml to 5L. Includes upper wire, lower wire, and D-ring. These bale wire replacements DO NOT FIT LeParfait Jars.

I think your suggestion will work. Mr. Bones might need to order a couple and try them out.

Do you have a Rural King farm supply around anywhere? They usually have all kinds of canning supplies.

            Antique stores and flea markets.
My sons new wife used Mason jars as center pieces with wild flowers at they're wedding, hit up local flea markets and antique stores found enough for 20+ tables and left a bunch on the shelves.
