Building artistic, end grain cutting boards now

Saw some similar to this being made in Russia, thought I'd give it a try. Over 400 pieces of wood end grain. I have all kinds of ideas now. I'm a segmented wood Turner so I'm going to use some of those skills to make cutting boards.

Very cool! What will you do with it? Display it, use it, sell it?? It is a piece of art - fantastic!

As a former wood turner, I'd like to see some of your turnings. Love the board BTW.

We've already been using it for a couple weeks but the wood I chose stands up to the sharpest of knives, not a mark on it. The wood is Jatoba, hard Maple and Cocobola (the border). I probably won't use much Cocobola in the future due to its cost but I may sell some in the future if I can get the price I'd need to get for them. I own a mobile electronics business so this is more of a hobby.

I know cocobolo has gained popularity with guitar makers, as rosewood (a traditional hardwood used on acoustic guitars) is vanishing. Not surprised to hear the price is high. Keep up the good work!

                  Exactly.

One like this would be around 350 to 400 due to the time it takes to get the alignment so accurate and the cost of materials.

Not a cutting board, but fabulous eye candy nonetheless.
