    Need some new toys

I just picked up a used 22 inch Weber kettle. It's a little more beat up than I had thought so I need to decide if I keep it or clean it up and try to resell to get my money back (and maybe a bit more) to put towards a different one. Regardless, I have or will have a kettle added to my collection in the near future and plan to add some accessories. Looking for some input on what to get first (after the SnS which is priority #1).

Assuming I only have the $$ for two accessories at the moment and keeping in mind I have a GMG Daniel Boone pellet pooper and a Weber Spirit gasser, which two should I get now? And if a rotisserie is one of them, should I go Weber or Cajun Bandit (or other)?

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Kettle with SnS is all anyone needs. Buy beer.

I checked the rotisserie, but get it for your gasser. That's a better setup, IMO.

A $35-40 Vortex is the clear winner !! Oh the chicken that comes out of that kettle with one !!!

Given the price, I am probably going add that to the mix sooner rather than later even if not part of the early buys.

+1 on the Vortex! One of the best accessories I ever bought.

I saw a video at some point where the high heat directly over the Vortex did some damage to the cooking grate. Not sure if that is a legit issue or if it was just a cheap grate. Have either of you had any issue with this?

The SnS comes first. Trying to figure out what comes next.

My opinion is if you know you're getting an SnS then you simply don't need a Vortex. You can warp 10 wings & things just fine w/ an SnS, but you can't smoke a brisket nearly as well with a Vortex.

Next, do you fancy yourself cooking rotisserie to justify its cost? Do you see yourself using the Arteflame griddle? Do you see yourself using the DnG pan to cook on? I wouldn't buy the DnG pan simply as a drip pan, it's a pricey drip pan IMO when foil is cheap, but it's a great griddle! The 22" Arteflame is way pricier than the DnG as a griddle, granted it's bigger but it's way pricier.

My vote is Easy Spin grate for sure. Even if you don't do the cold grate technique, it's sized perfectly for use with the SnS. Next DnG if you'd use it to cook on. If not, buy beer & meat or another thermometer.

Obviously we can't choose for you, you may cook differently than we do. I hope to get you to look forward 6 months and picture how you'll be cooking, and whether or not you might think you've wasted cash on an accessory you won't use as much as you thought when the MCS bug was biting.

The rotisserie would occasionally get used for whole chicken and roasts, but the biggest appeal to me is trying to find some good gyro recipes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndwa2TlYuiM to go on some grilled pita with homemade tzatziki.

Would like a griddle to cook on that has some decent cooking space. Maybe the GrillGrate Griddle for my gasser is a better way to go so I won't have to fire up a batch of coals when I feel like cooking breakfast outside.

While I agree with Huskee that you don't NEED a Vortex, I'm a firm believer that you SHOULD HAVE ONE. :-) One can't have too many BBQ tools.

I'm not sure NEED is my biggest factor. My wife would probably tell me I don't NEED another grill, but here we are...

EasySpin. Instead of getting the DnG, I went to Smart Food Service/Cash and Carry and got a cheap, but sturdy, 18" pizza pan (not the thin aluminum pan) and cut it to fit the SnS. I wrap that in foil. Since I have GrillGrates and the GG griddles, I didn't need another griddle. GrillGrates are a good idea for your list, also. I need to get the EasySpin.

Can't believe I left the GrillGrates off the list. Maybe I subconsciously thought I'd be getting those regardless of the rest.

You can make an easy spin by simply grinding off the tabs off regular Weber grates, easy peasy. Of course you do get stainless with the easy spin.

He already has a SNS on the list as the #1 (as he should) so what else should he get? I still vote for the Vortex. Yea you can just about do as well with an SNS but you can't get the same even cooking and you give up a lot of real estate with the SNS, very little with the Vortex. For a few dollars more I've enjoyed having both.

Also the Easy Spin has a larger hinged section, and it's removable..much better suited for the SnS- reloading coals, adding wood, etc.

I say go with some Umai dry bags. Try something a bit different and have fun with science and food! Dry age some sub primal meat and use The WEBER and SNS. That’s my opinion!

I assume you need a vacuum sealer with the Umai bags. Is that right? I guess it would be yet another accessory to add to the list.

jumbo7676 yes, need a vac sealer. Sorry about that. But, vac sealers are great for so many other things as well. After getting my vac sealer I use it for so much, great for leftover bbq and such. Makes it easier to go to Costco type places any buy in bulk and know the food is sealed and won’t get the freezer burn zip top bags can get.

😁 and then you get to dry age ribeye, NY strip, and brisket! Hahaha

If you ask for an other other, than it won’t be just another other but a different other which changes everything & eliminates any thoughts of mother, brother.
Reminds me of otherly love, which is not motherly or brotherly.

I picked two things I don't have but have been thinking about - The easy spin and vortex. I'll be interested in the results of the poll.

I've got a 22 inch weber that is an older model , 20 plus years. over the years the lid has been dropped and the ash / vent sweeper has lost contact with the bottom of the kettle. With the lid being slightly out of round it is no longer air tight and the bottom sweeper not completely sealing, the temp is extremely hard to regulate for smoking. I have the SNS with Craycort cast iron grills. The SNS is great for 2 zone cooking and the cast iron grill works okay. The grills need a lot of attention as the seasoning burns off and need to be scraped and reseasoned after every cook or they will rust. The good is they give great grill marks and they will last forever. I bought a Universal rotisserie years ago and mounted the brackets on the kettle. I've used the rotisserie maybe 6 times and only used whole chickens, the results were ok.
So in my opinion the SNS is great for 2 zone. The CI grills will save you money in the long run. The rotisserie is okay, but cheaper and less time consuming is to buy a rotisserie chicken at a local market.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts! Vortex has been ordered. Will be ordering the SnS with the Easy Spin Grate in the next few days. Rotisserie will be next on the list but will have to wait for now, which is fine since the Cajun Bandits are currently out of stock.
