    Stainless Steel Grate

    I'm thinking about throwing together a fire pit and making a stainless steel grate for the top of it. Similar to an Argentinian grill grate. I'm a welder and have access to different metals but I cant seem to find the size and thickness needed that others use for the grate. I know I'll need 316 grade stainless and the angle is either 3/4 or 1 inch by " thickness"? Has anyone used this type of grate before ?

    Used it extensively Use 5/16" 8mm round stainless bar. Works better and easier to clean

      I'm with Ahumadora. Thicker really helps with cleaning.

    I thought the channeling affect for the grease was the reason for the use of angles rather than bars. Thick bars would be the easiest to clean.

      Yes that is the reason for the angle, The grease volume falling into the heat is cut by 2/3rd's

      I like your thinking and would probably be at least as easy to clean as the aluminum grates that are so popular. A good ss wire brush should clean them easily.
