    Salt Cone of roasting?

Came across this is a TJ Maxx. Three thoughts:

    1) Useless waste of money.
    2) The second time you use, uh gross.
    3) Very innapropriate looking. Made my teen daughter slightly uncomfortable.

For hygiene reasons, I don't see it being any different than a salt block? Don't see a function for it in the first place though

It might work if you preheat it, but otherwise I don't think so

Maybe in a pot full of veggies, or even in chili. Think I would pass though.

... and then there’s the issue of it not being dishwasher safe ... although I’m thinking it would sure soften your water if you were to run it through a cycle or two. 😎

Grew up transporting bags and bags of salt to the Water Softener out back. Good licks....urrr...I mean good times.

          "Very innapropriate looking"?.
Looks like a candle to me, not sure what the concern is.

As far as second use being gross - seems no different than cooking on the big slabs of himalayan salt that were a fad some years ago. Easy to clean.

certain plugs are becoming more popular, and this COULD look like a basic model. Or a tapered candle on a drip tray. Whatever floats ones boat

Histrix nailed it as far as the reference to the slab fad. This is a gimmick. Whether it looks gross or whatever, it is Himalayan rock salt. It does have minerals in it vs the industrialized "ground" salt referred to, AKA kosher and table salt.
To receive benefits of salt, it is to be used pre-cook, cooking process or at serving, not laying it on or sticking it up the middle. If it has qualities such as Himalayan it can offer unique flavorful tastes to the foods that it is applied to, which the Morton’s & the Diamond Crystals & such lack.
My answer would be in the form of a question:
          TJMaxx? 🕶

Hmmm, I wonder what you had to say. Like maybe you don’t like the cone?

I know a few people who swear by their salt slabs as a serving plate. They won't season their meat prior to cooking, instead just scrape their meat over the slab for each bite. I'm pretty sure the pre-cook seasoning does something more for the steak, and I'd never use a salt slab as my serving plate. I imagine they are missing out. But as long as they're happy, I'm not going to sweat it.

I was served a lamb dinner on a slab of salt at a fancy hotel. Wasn't bad to start but when half way through it was getting to salty for me.

I could see a salt slab being more effective than this.

Look at the possibilities this item brings about. Do you think they may sell a couple of million of these? While most of us probably think this is a waste of money, what other more likely BBQ items could we come up with that pros would not likely but others might think are worth a try. Probably even never us, but still buy? Any ideas come to mind?
