... and then there’s the issue of it not being dishwasher safe ... although I’m thinking it would sure soften your water if you were to run it through a cycle or two. 😎
Histrix nailed it as far as the reference to the slab fad. This is a gimmick. Whether it looks gross or whatever, it is Himalayan rock salt. It does have minerals in it vs the industrialized "ground" salt referred to, AKA kosher and table salt.
To receive benefits of salt, it is to be used pre-cook, cooking process or at serving, not laying it on or sticking it up the middle. If it has qualities such as Himalayan it can offer unique flavorful tastes to the foods that it is applied to, which the Morton’s & the Diamond Crystals & such lack.
My answer would be in the form of a question:
TJMaxx? 🕶
I know a few people who swear by their salt slabs as a serving plate. They won't season their meat prior to cooking, instead just scrape their meat over the slab for each bite. I'm pretty sure the pre-cook seasoning does something more for the steak, and I'd never use a salt slab as my serving plate. I imagine they are missing out. But as long as they're happy, I'm not going to sweat it.

Reason: Corrected unacceptable use of "their" instead of "they're."
Look at the possibilities this item brings about. Do you think they may sell a couple of million of these? While most of us probably think this is a waste of money, what other more likely BBQ items could we come up with that pros would not likely but others might think are worth a try. Probably even never us, but still buy? Any ideas come to mind?
