    Disposable Cutting Boards?

    Anyone used these? https://smokymountainsmokers.com/col...cutting-boards

Not those specifically but I always have disposable cutting boards on hand.

Same here, something maybe I found on Amazon that fit my full size sheet pans.

Do you use them for your catering events?

    #3
These would be nice to use if you were at an event and you don't want to haul your boards around.

Large cutting boards are almost always what I use for BBQ and they are a pain to haul around, clean and maintain on the go.

I use, well, hundreds of them! Work great. Get the bigger ones.

Food safety is not to be taken lightly. If you cook for competitions or just don't want to take the time to properly clean your raw cut boards, the ones that won't fit in the dishwasher, then these paper boards are just the ticket.

        Yup, especially with raw meat.

I'm glad I read this thread. My biggest cutting board is heavy and awkward. Even though it's really the best size for big pieces of meat, I sometimes make do with one of my smaller boards to avoid the hassle of dealing with the big one.

I could see putting one of those 18 x 24 paper cutting boards on a flat aluminum cookie sheet for cutting and serving, especially when we're eating out on the deck. It would be light weight and much easier to handle.

That’s a great product! I love the large cutting board but it is difficult to clean.

I've never heard of these, so thanks, DavidNorcross for the heads up.

I almost always use large rimmed sheet pans covered with a couple of layers of heavy duty aluminum foil for cutting smoked meats, but I have to be careful about not slicing into the foil as the knife gets close to the surface. I'll line my sheet pans with this product and see how it does.

I love using my huge teak cutting board, but it is a beast to scrub clean enough to suit me. I oil it with food grade mineral oil each time after I've punished it with soap and hot water. I like using it because it's so pretty.

What are they made out of? Something biodegradable?

I am guessing, since they make no mention of sustainability and there is no mention of post-consumer recycled content, that they are new plastic that will eventually wind up outliving the cockroaches.

I'm concerned about the plastic content as well. Somewhere on the Smoky Mountain site I thought I read they were paper so I assumed they are a sort of coated paper but I could be wrong about that.

Amazon has a roll of textured plastic that one can tear off the length needed; it is not rimmed and of course is sold as disposable. Ugh, more disposed plastic. Not for me.

That said, if I worked in a situation where using disposible plastic is the only option because of food safety issues, then I'd weigh the bitter vs. the better a little more closely.

Edited to add: BBQ Guru also sells disposable cutting boards made from high quality coated food grade paper. They are not rimmed, though.

P.S. I can't post a photo because there is no option for that when adding an edit to an existing post, I guess?

A couple posts above state that they are paper, can't find it on the website though. Can anybody here confirm what they are made of?

I liken the disposable cutting boards to the cardboard liner you find inside the cap of your BBQ sauce or bottle of hot sauce, only a little more heavy-duty.

The ones I use are like coated poster board cut to fit a full size sheet pan that I cut in half when using 1/2 pans.

BBQ Guru has one clearly identified as paper:

Okay, so now the cold light of reason is dampening my initial enthusiasm. I can see why these would be awfully handy for BBQ competitions. On the other hand, for my occasional use at home it's not penciling out to be a good thing. The overall cost including shipping is pretty steep, so I think I'll do without.

I tend to agree, IowaGirl. For one packet of 30 18x24 sheets, the cost including shipping is $33.10, (shipping @ $13.10 is over half the cost of the sheets themselves @$20) . Pretty steep for what you get.

The BBQ Guru cutting mats with shipping is similar; that is, steep shipping fees for what you get.
