    Tale

When using my PartyQ for the first time the PartyQ cooker probe temperature was not matching a Maverick cooker probe I placed right next to it. So today I did an experiment comparing the PartyQ probe to both of my Maverick probes.

I suspended all three in boiling water and much to my surprise the PartyQ temperature was 225 degrees, one Maverick was 214 degrees and the other Maverick was 192 degrees.

I discarded the Maverick probe reading 192 and will order a replacement. The Maverick probe that read 214 was the one located next to the PartyQ probe during the cook. The PartyQ literature talks of calibrating but I cannot figure out how to do so. Is it possible to recalibrate a PartyQ or should I be contacting them about a new probe?

This experiment made me test my meat probes as well and both read 213.

Thanks for any help or information.

Most people, when calibrating, will use ice water and boiling water. you should get 32 and 212. that said, you might get slightly different readings (within a degree or two) for elevation. most of the time, with analog thermometers, you simply add or subtract the difference. that is often because analog has vacuum tubes with measure marks attached, but for electronics, I would get new probes and test them. if they are still not calibrating, you need a new master because the boards aren't interpreting the signals correctly.

      Interestin, an cooly scientific experiment!

Am curious, if ya swapped yer two Maverick probes, to determine if it might be th probe, or summat else?

Decidely not a challenge to yer methodology; it's jus how my mind works, when I'm troubleshootin...

We think similarly - isolate those independent variables!

We all think similarly as I did so and it did not change the results.

Here is the calibration menu for the PartyQ. I need to test mine also.

      Update:
Glad I read this post. My PartyQ probe (relatively new) shows 60F in ice water and 112F in boiling water. Used my Thermapen and Smoke for reference. They were showing 32-33F and 210F. I made sure my PartyQ was in F not C.

I went through the same process as you are in. I can tell you the two devices will never read exactly the same. I contacted BBQ Guru and was assisted by Donna Whitaker Kelly. She sent me the calibration procedure via email. See photo for their procedure.
