Grill mats

    Grill mats

    Anyone using grill mats (not Grill Grates) on your gas grill. Son using them ad says tey prevent flareups and he likes them. Any comments?

    I love grill mats, I use them for a variety of foods. They are especially good for fish, kabobs and veggies. Shrimp skewers come out great whereas before I was always worried about sticking and over cooking. Not much of an investment really and well worth it. The added benefit is they pop into the dishwasher for easy clean up (although do them alone because the smokey buildup is transferred to your clean dishes otherwise !!).

    I have them in both sheets, and in a roll. I like them, but often forget I have them - I've got CI griddles and a Blackstone too.

      Two very worthy alternatives.

    I will say that a properly seasoned cast iron griddle is easier to clean than a grill mat, no matter what you cook. And I don't think you'll be leaving your grill mats to your grand kids... And a grill mat doesn't get better the more you use it.

    I originally bought the grill mats to try on a warming rack with smaller items - that works just fine! (or use them in your toaster oven when it's raining)

      I have both mesh and solid. Both worth the small investment to apply to certain foods as mentioned by Troutman.

        Planking fish is best.... mats are fine for veggies.
