    Brining Bucket

    Hello,

Thoughts on brining buckets and a link to ones that are decently priced? I see some advertised online, but I don’t want to pay $35 for something they plastic molded for .25 cents. I was also thinking if brining bags are better. Overall looking for food grade brining containers, not black garbage bags! Thanks in advance!

How about heading over to a local bakery (and that could be the bakery in a supermarket), and asking if you can take one of their empty food-safe 5 Gal buckets? The supermarkets get stuff like cake icing in them. Cheap and fun.

Many years ago, I picked up a bunch of white 5-gallon food-safe buckets from the bakery at a local super market (as I see EdF suggests above). Total cost: zero. Try to get buckets that contained frosting/icing and steer clear of those that contained anything savory or pickled (too hard to clean and get the smell out).

I got a couple of those as well from a donut shop. I paid $1 each for them (so not free ) but they come in handy for chicken and things that size. As far as large brines like a 20# turkey, I just buy those Ziploc XL bags and line my cooler with it. They are food safe, you can seal them up then just put bags of ice around it and close the lid. Overnight the ice hardly melts and there is no mess what-so-ever.

If there's a Home Depot or Lowe's in your area, get one of those for $5. We use them for our turkey brining all the time.

            I have used:
            My Cambro round
            A Home Depot Job Bucket
            A trash bag
A thoroughly cleaned cat litter bucket

The cambro rounds that I use for bread making and sous viding are my go to brine containers now, though. No uni-taskers in my house.

It's just plastic. Seriously. It's not like the cats crap in the bucket. Once you hose it out good, it's the same thing snow melt salt comes in. A lot of other things that you buy 20-40 lbs at a go. I'm thinking of using them for pellet storage, as well.

Potkettleblack I knew that was coming back ;o) Storage is a great idea, and humanity's greatest challenge.
