Side burner or Auxiliary burner for outdoor kitchen?

Any recommendations for adding a burner or two to an outdoor kitchen? I'm using portable butane burners that are only sufficient. It would be great to have something that took it up a level in term of performance, aesthetics, and convenience. I'm not prepared to run a gas line so I'm thinking propane, and I don't think I want to spend a ton.

Contemplating that myself. It will be easy for me to add a LP line so that should open up more options. Looking forward to the input.

Something like this is what I have in mind currently.

That is interesting, and would look great built into an outdoor kitchen. The only thing I would watch out for would be rust on the cast iron grate, if this lives outside. Even covered, humidity and moisture will rust up an uncoated cast iron cooking grate. Just keep them oiled and they should do well.

jfmorris Yeah it will be outside in fairly high humidity area. But it will be under the roof. I think I want it next to the gas grill so I basically have a stove area where I can use the burners sometimes in conjunction with the grill and or griddle. I want to rival or best my indoor kitchen range. I'm thinking of dropping it on the left. https://i.imgur.com/zdMNBIH.jpg

I have two gas stove type burners and one small griddle separate from my gas grill. Both are on a cart with a sink. The grill is a separate cart.

Anyhow it’s GREAT. I use them frequently. They are very useful for deep frying and pan searing, because the indoor kitchen doesn’t get smoky. Strong odors can also be kept out of the house.

Comoletey worth it. You will like those built in burners.

My thoughts exactly. My father in law has a heavy duty burner hooked to a gas line. All the frying and grease splatters stay outside.

Have you considered going for induction burner, rather than propane or sth. If I were building a kitchen outdoors, induction would probably be my first thought.

I would like to get an induction indoor cooktop. But the big problem with them is they don’t work if the electricity is out. And outdoors you would need electricity. Maybe more than 120vac at 15 amps depending on the number of burners. Not impossible, but gas is more practical.

I agree with SmokeyGator. Although I don't experience electricity outages here, my outdoor kitchen is currently running on an extension cord and a garden hose. I do plan to upgrade the electric and plumbing eventually, and will probably run a natural gas line then too, but that's not happening anytime soon. So I'm going propane that can be switched to NG later.

Fair. I only asked if you’d considered. I would replace the gas sideburner on my Weber with an induction burner if I could, but I have an outlet on the deck and we could rearrange the deck so my Grills were on the outlet side.

I've been thinking about something like this, but it is portable. I'm interested in the griddle accessory as well. https://www.campchef.com/camp-stoves...ner-stove.html

With the burn bans for camping around here they only allow propane stoves.

I use a portable induction doohickey at my campsite with my cast iron skillet/pot/whatever....especially on windy days and I love it. gets the CI hot like right now (it's kind of amazing). Certainly there's a more permanent version that could be an option for install in an outdoor kitchen.(?)

The induction burners look like a great solution for flat pans.

This is what I have , 60000btu does the trick. Works well for the wok also.

Very cool but not the built-in burner I'm after. I want a couple of burners next to my gas grill built into the counter.

Attjack I think that will look good on the left. These type ranges are super easy to install if you just use a jigsaw to cut out the right size hole to drop it into.

Yeah, it's going to (hopefully) be a 30-minute project. Kind of like hanging the cabinet that's been out there in my way for over a week now.

Well Attjack, when all you have are paws, it's probably hard to hang a cabinet...

jfmorris That's true but at least I have big paws.

Unfortunately, I was only able to get the adapters necessary at the hardware store. The hose and regulators they had there were too short. So I'll either pick up one this weekend, or order one online, and then I'll be able to tell you how it performs.

Side burners are great for griddles when I dont wanna fire up the entire camp chef, but dont want grease spatter in the kitchen.
