    Grill Grates

not sure if this is the right forum, but since they were recommended here, I figured I’d post here.

I ordered Grill Grates for my Weber Genesis gasser. Couple of quick questions:

    1. I saw you can seat them on top of the grill’s grates or just swap them out. I was planning to swap them out - any reason to sit them on top of my gasser’s original grates?

    2. My gasser has three burners so I have 5 grill grate panels. Is it worth putting three rails up, and two in the flat side up position, for versatility? I was thinking of doing that for two zone grilling, having a griddle type surface, etc.

Thanks in advance! And thanks again for the recommendation, they look like a ‘grate’ way to up my gasser game.

Swap 'em out, they'll fit nicer. I have an older Genesis that takes 4 grates and I generally run 2 up/2down. I find that I use the flattop setup way more than the grills. One of our favorite meals is SV 8oz burgers, coat with a little avocado oil then sear them on the screaming hot flat side. Great crust.

I did a flank steak last night with similar results.

They are easy to flip, so do whatever works for you.

What I've been doing with GrillGrates with reverse sear on my Genesis II (four-burner) is to do the slow part of the cook with the grates in the normal position. When I'm ready to sear, I take two or three of the GrillGrates linked together, turn them sideways, and lay them directly on the flavorizer bars to get them as close to the burners as possible, flat side up. Good gloves help with that maneuver! Then, I crank all the burners up to max.

With this method, I get the grates as close to the heat source as possible and get them really hot. I also have the flat surface for searing. I get a really nice sear that way.

Thanks guys, I think I’ll try swapping them Nd having some one way and the rest the other to try them out.

Just pulled the trigger on the WSCGC a few minutes ago. Deal was too good to pass up. So I’ll have a lot more BBQ options at the ready in time for football season.

Yes a buddy of mine forwarded the ad. He got the one without the table, I got the one with. There was an eBay coupon for another $100 off today. I couldn’t believe the price.

That's fantastic! I was a bit skeptical at first, but they are totally legit

Yeah I thought it too good to be true but he’s sold a few others at that price with good feedback - they are an appliance store on the Eastern Shore. Mine is scheduled to come next week.

Interesting, I’ll have to look into good gloves!

Speaking of GG, I e-mailed them a while back about some custom cut ones, and they never got back to me. Been about 2 weeks.

As GG recommends, my first two cooks were chicken thighs and legs. I’m really impressed by them. Chicken came out fantastic. It’s interesting not getting flare ups, being able to add chips in between the rails, getting almost a griddle likemsizzle even rails up, etc. I would also recommend their spatula and tongs — makes cooking and cleaning much easier.
