    Firewood Rack

I’m looking to get a fire pit soon, so I’ll need some firewood! I’d like to get a firewood rack to store the wood, but I’m having a hard time finding one I like.

First, I don’t want a cheapo that will rust and be dilapidated in a year.

Second, I feel like buying local is the only way to go because of the size and weight of the product. I live in NC and buying local shouldn’t be an issue, but haven’t found a great solution yet.

Third, is there a super easy way to make one of my own? I’m only semi-handy!

I’m looking at about 8 feet long by 4 feet tall, which is what, a 1/2 cord?

Can you cut a 2x4? If so, here is one option:

There are other brackets too - just search for "firewood rack brackets on Amazon.

I would use salt treated lumber...

I built one up 3-4 years ago from 2x4’s I already had, and decking screws, about 6 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. Thought it would fall apart in a year bit so far it’s going strong. It keeps the wood a couple inches off the concrete pad it’s on and keeps a couple inches between the wood and the brick of the house. I think I put it together in 45-60 minutes.

Nice! I’m not crazy handy, but I could use brackets suggested by Ron and just drill holes and screw.

RonB really interesting idea/find! I do have access to a wood saw, and could coax a friend to help me! I like it! I’m going to see if anyone else has any ideas!

I would go to your local big box store or someone who carries a lot of stone and brick and build a small 4 column one to the size you need it doing a full chord then 4 x 4 x 8 lay a decorative block down as a base and build your columns. Pay travel down on the inside of the base so when it rains the water drains thru and your base layer of wood stays dry, will never rust out

I have a 8X4 Wood Haven rack from Amazon. Very well built and comes with a very nice heavy duty cover.
I'm going to get more wood to fill it this week.

Both are awesome! The second one might be more than I can chew. But I appreciate the link to the first one!!

I had a bunch of trees taken down this year. I just used old PT 2x4 and 2x6 that I had sitting around (from an old treehouse that we took down) and decking screws and slapped together 7 racks. Simple and cheap. Some tarps to keep the rain off.

I got this one from Wal-Mart, and it has served me well. I put thick paving stones under the legs to raise it off the ground a bit and to retard sinking in wet ground.
