    do air fryers work?

I used to fry a lot more than I do now. don't like smelling up the house. I have seen the advertisements for Air fryers. Easy question, do they work? tougher question, is it as tasty and crisp as frying?

Yes they work no not as tasty or as crispy . Small batches will get crispy over a large batch

They work, but not as well as a real fryer. And not as well as a convection toaster oven, which is basically a larger capacity air fryer with more upside in variety.

After testing dozens of air fryers (and eating countless chicken nugs), we recommend the Ninja Air Fryer Pro and a budget pick, the Gourmia 4-Quart Air Fryer.

Only small batches come out evenly.

This is why you need an outdoor burner. You can fry outside.

Aside from that, you can get an electric deep frier. Which can be plugged in outdoors if you want. Or not. They do a better job at containing the mess and smells. Not a perfect job, just a better job.

But if you are talking southern style cooking (everything fried and lots of sugar)....no air frying doesn’t work. That’s just a carpetbagging yankee plot you trick you into baking

I was afraid it was just a trick. Thanks, I do have an electric fryer that I use outside, and 2 outdoor burners. There are just 2 of us at home now, and was looking to see if there was something that could be used indoors. I may have to get a smaller electric fryer.

Was going to say the same thing. Do it outside for sure.

An air fryer is basically a small convection oven with an overly powerful circulation fan. As long as you keep that in mind you won’t be disappointed with the results.

My wife must have been disappointed. She bought one, used it once when I wasn't around, and I haven't seen it since. Sometimes it's best not to ask.

Another air fryer question here. I notice you can get one for pretty cheap. But other are spendy. Are the spendy ones worth it?

No because cheap or expensive they all suck, or no a cheap one works about as well?

I've seen plenty of them in the thrift stores for dirt cheap. If you really want to try one, you might check there first.

Attjack no on everything . If you put food in the basket and it does not touch of block the air from the other food then you can get stuff crispy even burnt, but as soon as the air movement is blocked or reduced only parts will be cooked thru

If you have a convection oven, you can get that 'copper line' of wire baskets for pennies, place one on a cookie sheet, and use your oven. I do whole packages of bacon that way sometimes - takes about 20 minutes, no grease, and rinse off the cookie sheet.

If you're thinking of a more spendy air fryer, is it because you want to fry inside only? I don't mind going outside. I bought a Bass Pro propane fish fryer, and it also fits my full size turkey fryer buckets. I have a handful of those buckets and half-size buckets, and use them as boilers too - for stuff like king crab legs. Very versatile at less cost. If you have an extra bucket, you can drop in a removable grate halfway up and have yourself a clam-bake steamer (I didn't eat lunch, and I can taste that clam-steamed corncobs now).

Point is, the air fryer does one thing. I like stuff that does lots. I get the oil basically in 5 Gal bulk at a minimum, to keep costs down.

The only way you can do better is if they bring back trans-fats.

Firing up a vortex in a kettle runs indirect around 475 with plenty of airflow. Works great for faking people into thinking you fried the wings.

I am going to try that on my pellet smoker! Thanks!

Yes and no, don't like them with most traditional fried foods... but the Charbroil Big Easy Smoker Roaster Grill puts out a fantastic turkey or chicken. Not very good at smoking without extensive modifications but crisps up almost as good as a fryer and almost as fast of a cook. Bonus is you can use a drip pan to still make gravy. I haven't found an indoor unit that produces satisfactory food. We've tried a few.
