Crazy barking dogs will totally deter most criminals. I have 2 labradoodles who are the most friendly and loving dogs. But they sound like ravaged psycho dogs. People stay away. Even my neighbors.
But I feel you have an absolute right to put a cap in someone’s ass if they’re brazen enough to enter your property and commit a crime. You’re protecting yourself and family. You have that right.
Yeah, not in NC! I dog-sat 2 Rottweilers once... NEVER EVER would the family get robbed! Luckily, those two dogs LOVED me, but man, were they formidable! You’d never know one of those Rotts was a lap dog HAHA!
Troutman ya ever try gittin him/them to pull a sled, or skier? It's a great way to help em burn off some stink, durin th winter....
(We all git Cabin Fever)
Mr. Bones he actually gets taken to a doggie park where he has several acres, a swimming pool and other dogs to run with once a week. Wife treats him better than me for the most part

If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Well, this is a tough one. Having a pool I’ve always had a fence, and everything like grills is inside a fence with dogs going in and out of the house through a dog door. I recently installed a Ring flood light camera in the front due to an attempted break in to my truck, and it has a view of the entire front yard. Anyone sets foot inside the curb it sets off the alarm on my phone and records video.
Too bad we have to be concerned about this! I'm taking my Rec Tec Trailblazer with me on vacation next week. So, no one will be able to steal it from my backyard. But, I'm concerned about leaving it set up in the RV park. My plan is to just put it back in the truck when not in use. This will be royal pain in the #$% after a good meal and some drink. Gotta do it though; would regret if stolen.
Haven’t really checked into it but if they do manage to take your stuff I’ve been seeing on face book a gps device that is the size of a magnetic key holder that you can place in a good hiding spot. Like a low jack type system. You can fire up you phone or computer and track it. Might be worth checking out
If it's the one I have seen, it actually only has a range of a few hundred yards. So you would have to already have a pretty good idea of where it is, and then go there.
Well here are some thoughts in order of effectiveness that doesn’t require you to have to feed and water something for years.
1. Put it in a locked shed... even if it is a cheap backyard shed from Lowes.
2. Secure it. ie: Eye bolt in concrete with a reinforced hexagonal chain... Saw a cool thing where a guy did that but the eye bolt was in a pipe sub surface and he could put a cap on the pipe level with the surface when not in use.
3. Weight it down or make it awkward. If you can’t secure it to a foundation or something then maybe some cinder blocks or other items will work. Go to a big box retailer and all that stuff setting outside is chained together. Yes it is easy to steal a wheelbarrow but not while it is fastened to 22 other ones, a lawn mower, a row of grill, and some patio furniture.
4. Make it noisy. I like the idea of some sort of alarm.
5. Put it in well lit area. Maybe some motion lights would help.
I would chain stuff down also the dog option helps. I live in a urban setting if anything isn't chained down it is stolen. Cameras are a waste of money. All you get is to see the person that stole your stuff. You give that pic to the cops and it goes no where. If someone is stealing from your neighborhood chances are they do not live there unless it is some local kids that are going through a stage. We had cars stolen out front and the camera pictures didn't do anything in terms of getting people's stuff back or catching the criminal. The GPS thing you mentioned sounds pretty cool.
The cameras will let you see them. But also with the notification of it happening you can also yell at them to drop your s@#,t as well as talk thru your Alexa the same way.
My experience has been they usually steal my stuff when I am at work. But it would be cool if the camera system has a PA system attached that could do that. The cameras also struggle to see the difference in a Amazon delivery guy and the guy walking away with your WSM 14.5.
I have never heard of a grill getting stolen. AC units yes. But not a fire pit.
In this case, your friend will be mung and filth. Thieves want stuff they can unload without much work. They don’t want to steal your ashy dirty fire pit. They would rather steal your power tools. Or outdoor furniture.
My theft detergent would be build a fire in the thing. Then don’t bother removing the ashes. Also if you can avoid copper. Crackheads love copper, it’s accepted at every scrap metal shop and is higher value than aluminum or steel (many AC units are stolen for the copper and aluminum by the way, cutting the referigetamt lines without pumping the system down to a vacuum and tightly crimping the lines pretty much ruins the unit).
Also a simple cover works. A thief isn’t doing to bother looking too hard for stuff unless they are specifically targeting your fire pit. If that is the case however nothing will stop it. It’s an inside job at that point. But the casual random thief is in a hurry, they want to get an split. Not stick around and search. Out of sight out of mind.
