    Fire Starter

I own the GoodOne Open Range for which I have been using the Weber fire starter cubes. I just ran out and went to Amazon to reorder and found something I think is better than the Weber cubes, Light-a-Fire fire starters. These are more expensive but they are made in America by persons with disabilities and they are more effective, less messy, and don't have that foul odor.

Yes, it does look like a little ketchup container full of wood shavings suspended in wax. If you are into being inventive and don't want to support persons with disabilities, get crafty with it.

I use Strike-a-Fire by Diamond (basically an oversized match made from paraffin coated pressboard), but when I am out I have found that 2 or 3 paper towels drizzled with a little vegetable oil works just as well in a chimney.

My buddy makes homemade firestarters in egg cartons. I guess I'm going to have to break it to him he may be special needs.

I've heard those work pretty good. I want to try that sometime, but most of the time we get eggs in a styrofoam carton.

They look good. I have been using Fire Starter Squares Quick-Light with great success. I bought them from Amazon. You get 144 squares which i cut each in half and use 3 halves to start a fire. "made from recycled newspapers, wood chips, and bonded with paraffin wax. This potent combination results in a fast lighting (1/10th of a second!) starter that will ignite even when wet. Each square can burn for approximately 10 minutes which is ideal for starting a robust fire. Midwest Hearth fire starters are non-toxic and will not flavor your food with unhealthy flavors that other petroleum based lighters use. Each box contains 144 fire starters. Simply break off individual squares from the larger wafer as needed."

I was just using newspaper for the longest time. When the drought hit California and everything was dry I just couldn't have embers flying around. I stumbled onto these. I like them much better than the Weber cubes.

The old egg carton, dryer lint, and paraffin makes for a great fire starter. One little section starts a chimney extremely well.

The waste from your paper shredder works well in th e egg carton with paraffin too.

I make mine using toilet paper tube, chips from chunk charcoal and paraffin wax, and a strip of newspaper for the wick. Click image for larger version

No, I'm not an engineer and don't even play one on TV. I just like fire!

A man with 1/4 bag of Lazzari chunk (sometimes chump) charcoal, active bathroom skills, desire to recycle, and wax and lots of time on my hands!

I tried tumbleweed fire starters for the first time early this year while in Galveston. They seem to work fantastic and are a pretty good value.
