I am wanting to build a cheap small half wall shack to put my grill and smoker in on our patio, something 4x6 or smaller that will keep the snow off of them, and the wind away from them while they are running. Has anyone done this before? I cant find much on the subject.

Has anyone built a "Shack" for their Smokers/Grills?

I have a project like this in mind for my offset smoker. I'd like to move it from my garage to the backyard but need to keep the rain off of the metal. Was thinking of pouring a foundation and putting a three sided shed using lattice for the sides and a metal roof. That with a canvas cover should preserve the steel against water.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
What I would suggest is putting up a simple 4 post supported roof structure over the grill area, with metal roofing, which weights very little, to cover the grills year round from the elements. Built it in such a way that during the winter you can add on some extra pieces of the metal roofing material as a wind break on 3 sides, on the posts that support the roof, but you can take it down with a few screws and store in the summer.
I built a 12 x 21 pavilion by my swimming pool last May, and its been great having my grills out there. When its not raining (or snowing) I keep them out past the end of the roof, but I roll them up under when I need to grill on a rainy day.
In your case I am thinking 4 4"x4" corner posts, tied together at the top with 2x6's and even 2x4's would be sufficient for a roof with a simple slant to it. No peak needed - just drop 6" or so from front to back.

I like the idea of that covered grill table for someone that just has a kettle. I know he just got a Weber Genesis though, and already had another cooker, so he probably needs a fixed cover he can roll multiple cookers up under. That grill table looks a lot like what I had in mind, but I was thinking he could built it off 4 corner posts mounted to his deck or patio, surrounding his grills.

Shh.. He might hear you.
Attjack, something like yours would be around what I want to do, that leans a bit to let the snow slide off. Although I wish I had a poolside Patio like Mr. Morris, I only have about a 13x18 patio. How big is the shack you built? It seems to be around the size I am looking for, and if you dont mind, what was the cost?

Keltonfoss It's 8' x 16'. The lumber, cement, and much of the hardware was about $1300 from a local lumber yard. Roofing panels were pretty reasonable, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I also got them from a local place that beat Home Depot, but check there for a comparable product and pricing. I just picked up my countertops today. The redwood cost me 2 bottles of scotch, and having them joined and planed was $300. I figure I'll probably have it all done for about 3k. Well worth it.
Edit: BTW I'm talking about my second newer shack from the outdoor kitchen thread. Not the one in the woods.Last edited by Attjack; March 13, 2018, 08:25 PM.
