Hi everyone!
So, just a preface, I checked the search and the recommended items, please forgive me if I missed it. (I'm new here) My wife has bought me 3 different grill scrapers in the past. They're ok, but it seems like a higher price does not mean a better product in this case. My question is does anyone have a grill scraper they love that either a: lasts forever or b: is so good that you're a repeat buyer anyway? I won't take offense to a link for a prior thread.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
DUDE, that's exactly what I use, and love it !!! It works great on my expanded metal grates from my pellet pooper and stick burner. Some Simple Green, a little scrubbing and a garden hose, all I need. Plus it's stiff plastic so no metal left behind. Winner...

The Ringer works great on my Grill Grates. I used it once on CI, it did clean up the pan but I had to use water, which I don't like. I use a spatula to scrape out the pan and wipe it with oil. If it is bad, I sautee an onion which loosens up the crud, then scrape and oil. MudkatSteve B
Yeah, the ringer is not ideal from Cast Iron. Your much better off with a Poly-Carbonate scraper. Then a no-scouring cleaning pad. I have two ringers. i use them on my Grill Grates and that is about it. Mudkat They just don't work that well and they can scour and scratch the CI over time.
For everyday, I use a welders brush. If the buildup is heavy, I use a weed puller. Both work well, and are fairly cheap. The linked products are just examples. I picked mine up at Lowes.
Since I do compete in KCBS competitions, we learned that there is a possibility of a loose wire on wire brushes getting stuck on your grill, or on the meat, and someone getting choked or worse I use this model. Not that fired up about it, but there are no chance of a stray wire. It works.
Yes, Spinaker I always have a story. My neighbor's son is a ENT Doctor. He's had to fish a stray brush wire from a guy's throat before so when I use a brush on my grates I wipe them down with a paper towel afterwards. (Of course the paper towel is a John Deere-not sure that makes a difference)
I have one of the above brushes but it doesn't work that well on my grates, it's too stiff and doesn't conform well. As to Skips's story, that's exactly what I said when the wire scare thing came out, just wipe down your grates before cooking, kind of a duh.
I have a similar brush I use that is made from a single coil of wire, but cannot find them in the local stores anymore. One of my nieces gave it to me for my birthday one summer.
I LOVE the Char Broil Cool Clean brushes. The hold together forever, you clean it while it is cool, and they have a grit impregnated in the bristles. The grit never seems to wear off, and they work great on both bar style and expanded metal style grates. No need to look any farther for me. Next to that, some water, and a big wad of aluminum foil on a hot grill is almost impossible to beat. For really stuck on carbon, I'll soak in water and dawn, scrub with the foil and some white vinegar, and then rinse again.

I guess I'm cheapskate, I use inexpensive putty knifes and a ball of aluminum foil. I have a couple wooden handle stainless brushes you can get in the welding section of the farm store but foil works pretty good.

Fuels Used:
Splits/Chunks, whatever I can get. Usually B&B competition. Favorites are Cherry, Apple, Post Oak, and Hickory.
Pellets, Lumberjack.
Charcoal, whatever is on sale. Currently have a bunch of KBB. Will eventually try B&B. Use whatever lump is on sale in my Ooni.
Propane, Blue Rhino.
Rubs:
Usually make my own riff’s on Memphis Dust and BBBR. Also use Meathead’s commercial rubs and occasionally try something new. I like a couple from Tuffy Stone and Kinder’s. After several surgeries, I’m very sensitive to “spicy” stuff, so I need to be careful about heat levels.
So here in Texas we have a grocery store called H-E-B. I bought this brush on a whim and have NEVER LOOKED BACK!!!! It is wicked awesome! Works like a champ, cheap, and because it is designed kind of like a metal Brillo pad on a stick, I never worry about wire strands dislodging and contaminating my food! It’s great!
Please let me know if this link doesn’t work........ my iPad hates me..... lol, look at my avatar pic. Won’t sit up straight no matter what!! Lol!!
The product is called the Mr. Bar-B-Q Long Handle Scrubber Brush
I have had several of them. They work great (or grate??) while they last but fall apart after a number of uses. Still, it's a good solution as long as they hold up.
@ Troutman, yeah I agree, they seem to break down quicker than some, but as cheap as they are, I still feel like I get my monies worth. Glad to hear from a fellow Texas resident that has used them and can confirm I haven’t made a completely terrible choice! Lol.
