    Great grate soaker

I’m always looking for a good place to clean my Q grates so I don’t track grease into the house or attract animals. I looked at auto drip pans and water heater pans but nothing was big enough or deep enough. I just got this MidWest Home for Pets crate pan. It comes in many sizes and is deep enough for a grate soak. I think it’s gonna work well! (just give it the "sniff test" in case it was a returned product )

Someone on here uses the water heater pans. I can't see the pic you posted.

my grate would not fit in the largest water heater pan I could find, 29"

Picture isn't showing. Sounds like you have it covered but did you consider a bus tub?

A large trash can top works for a 22.5" grate. Of course, that won't help you, but maybe it will help others.

I rechecked my grate size, 20"x22", maybe a large trash top would work if 30" in diameter

    Pressure washer does wonders.

yes, but I didn't want to spray grease all over, knowing me, I'll track it into the house and then have to live with the dog.........

Is this the pan you use, smokenoob ?

lonnie mac turned me on to using a water heater pan from Lowe's. The 25.5" base diameter size works like a charm for my 24 inch WSCGC grate.

Thats the one! So far, that's the only thing I could find to fit my 20x22 smoker grate ( which has a circular diameter of about 30").

they also make smaller and larger crate mats, that on fit my grate well!

These crate mats are great too! I use these for drip pans under my bikes.

My largest grill grate is 35" x 30" in my pellet pooper. What's a poor boy to do? I just get after them in the driveway with my pressure washer, a stiff plastic brush and lots of de-greaser.

Yeah, if mine was that big, I would probably define a dedicated "grease pit" area.

What's everyone's preferred cleaning methods/products after the soak?

Getting the wife to scrub it down. Preferred but not actual.

I use a utility tub intended for mixing concrete: 36 x 24 x 8. A generally handy thing to have, in my experience.

        Here's a 36 x 23.5 or 36 x 24 tubs from Amazon:

        https://www.amazon.com/11-409-36-Inc...ete+mixing+tub

        https://www.amazon.com/Maccourt-ST36...ete+mixing+tub

That should do the trick for some of the rectangular grates.

30 x35 inch grates present a whole new challenge, Troutman . But, just for you, here's a 40x40 tub:

Not cheap, but it would work.

I've been googling around to and found those. Have to be careful on the dimensions cause the taper toward the bottom and the lip take up some of the measurement. I posted a request for inside dimensions on one I found just to be sure.

I called on the Maccourt super tub. It's 30" x 22" inside on bottom, that looks like a winner for me!

I put my smoker grates in one of those cheap plastic kiddy pools and pressure wash the crap out of them once a year or two. I like some fat and grease patina on my grates most of the time The kiddy pool contains crap from flying all over. Once the grates are clean and the grease and water are in the pool I add some Dawn to break the grease down and then dump the pool. The grease is broken down and water dilluted enough my dog won't bother it.

My big full size steam table pans are too big and hard to clean in the kitchen sink. My wife does them in the pool outside and uses the outside shower that's on the motor home for a hot water source.
Necessity is the mother of invention.

I vote for this one. Plus ya keep occupied with the boat while everything is soaking.

Nice part is they are deep enough to contain most of the mess. I also put my hot tub filters in the pool and pressure wash them every fall before getting the hot tub going. If I tried to pressure wash those filters without being in the pool I'd be chasing them all over the yard!

Use it for double and triple duty if ya have a couple of rug rats. Here is whatcha do
        fill the pool
        add dish soap
        add grates
add 2 or 3 kids after feading em a lb of sugar( pref ages of 2 to 4 yrs old. If ya don’t have any then borrow from neighbors. At that young age they think it’s fun time)
let them scoot around the water in the pool on the butts for an hour or two. Add more soap making sure they are sliding on the grates
after time is up hose off the kids and give em more sugar and tell em to play tag in the back yard(a dog would help to play tag). This dries em off. After they are dry, feed em more sugar for a job well done
your grates are clean as a whistle
oh...don’t forget to return the kids to neighbors or ya might see pretty flashing lights at your front door. Won’t say how I know.
