    Kitchen Torch

Any recommendations for a kitchen torch for searing steaks and burgers and advice on how to use it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks MH, however Amazon indicates no longer available. Is torch searing much better than cast iron or Grillgrates for the outside opportunities? Thanks....I really benefit from this site!

Rumor has it Jmccloskey659 that the Searzall is actually sold out and will be back in stock at some point.

i prefer black iron. Only thing I use a torch for is brulee things and as I found out tonight, its the best way to start an amazintube

That Searzall looks interesting. I purchased a small butane kitchen torch awhile back for making creme brulee. Works great but I've never tried to sear a steak or burger with it. For that I use cast iron if indoors and open fire outdoors.
I like how the guy in the Searzall video uses that big ol' torch to melt cheese on his burgers when all he has to do is cover it for a minute and it will be perfectly melted.

Buy a self starter torch with propane from home depot or lowes

When I tried to use propane to sear, light the lump or finish off a creme brûlée, the flame would not stay lit upside down. I changed to MAP gas and solved the problem. Not sure it it’s a function of the gas or the nozzle?

My experience exactly! Propane for me will NOT stay lit when the torch is aimed below horizontal.

It's due to the type of nozzle you have. If you don't have a pressure regulated torch you can't tip your fuel cylinder without the flame going out.

It is a function of the torch head. Look for a Bernzomatic TS 3000 or TS4500. They work with any standard propane cylinder in the inverted position. Mapp gas was discontinued years ago. The Map Pro gas that replaced Mapp gas is only a couple hundred degrees hotter than propane, but costs a bunch more.

If you want to get fancy, you can buy an extension hose that fits between the canister and the torch head. Then the canister can sit upright on a table, or hang from your belt, and the head can be used in any orientation.

The Searzall works great on a ts8000 propane torch but it takes a while to finish more than 2 steaks. If more than 2 I break out a chimney and just sear them over the chimney as it is faster and hotter. If there is a crowd dump two lit chimneys into a kettle and sear as fast as you can keep up.

My experience also. Torch works well for one or two steaks, feels pretty arduous for more. I have the TS-8000. Will get the Searzall when it's back in stock though. Looks like a worthy upgrade.

The TS-8000 is a great torch.

Also handy when you need to fire up.

The small creme brûlée torches and propane soldering torches produce too narrow a flame for a good sear. I have the TS-800 and I attach the searzall to it. Stand back!

I use one of these, and it works pretty well. You do need to be careful about not searing in stripes. But I wouldn't be so happy using a propane torch from the basement in the kitchen. Kind of big.

I have a cheapo torch that I use for brûlée type applications and lighting pellets.

I used to have a TS4000 with a Searzall but it terrified my cats, annoyed the crap out of my wife, and produced a sear that didn’t make me happy. I should have sprung for the 8000, but two out of three would still be bad.
