My wife has mentioned more than once over the holidays that she’s ready for some pulled pork. I’ve only ever smoke one butt, but I tucked that away for future reference. I mentioned to her this morning that I’d like to run a few places tomorrow morning: Lowe’s to pickup some Weber briquettes to try out (they’re 40% off right now), the grocery to get whatever I need to make MMD and BBBR, then over to Carrboro to check out Cliff’s Meat Market. And get some short ribs. She said nothing just nodded; however... she came home later and hands me a bag. In it - some OXO meat shredders, and a few jars with shaker tops to hold my rubs. Guess who’s smoking a butt instead of short ribs this weekend! I’ve never owned any shredders, will let you know if I like them better than forks. Look like they might help removing hot meat from the grill too, I dunno.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
I notice ya' (Wisely ) did not post this as a poll, ie.: "which one should I cook, lol!"
Well Played, Good Sir!
Also noticed, looks like ya' got enough cooker real estate to mebbe do both, if that would make ya' happier...
Of course such a cook, without digital/wireless assistance, would require ya' to stay outdoors fer extended periods, imbibin' adult bevs, fer warmth's sake...jus' practicality, here!
I agree that my alternate scenario isn't perfect, but totally viable...
Thought mebbe it'd help give yer weekend a possible happy
Btw if ya' do have digi-gear stuff, to monitor yer cooker with, can take out 1/more batteries, to demonstrate to SWMBO that it's Imperative ya' remain' out of doors. or ya'll ruin $$$ wortha protein.
Don't press yer luck by sendin' her to th' Liquor Store; be well-prepared, well previous...
Good luck, happy cookin'!

Mr. Bones I don't believe you are helping out our friend here to the fullest extent. Now if SWMBO is willing to obtain claws and rub jars as a hint to her wanting pulled pork, FishTalesNC should take advantage of the opportunity. One can't make good pulled pork without digital thermos, especially the ones he doesn't already have. And pulled pork is much more tender if sous vide first. And if you are going to sous vide, you need a chamber vacuum sealer. And it is better over wood, so a wood smoker is needed. Not to mention.....oh, you must get the idea by now!
Shoot, why not go for the coupe de gras...you need a new $72,000 suburban to get to the store to get the rest of the stuff you will need....Wife did that, decided that her 4 month old Traverse was too small for one of our vacations so goes an buys a $72,000 suburban without asking, transfers the money from the bank account and then tells me in a text message while I am at work sitting in the middle of a corporate quarterly meeting....they still talk about my reaction to that text at the office....

I hope to find out tomorrow Mudkat. Made it to Sams Club this morning for the butt, and when I read the recipe for MMD my wife said "That’s ridiculous, we’re getting spices here too." 😂 The Weber briquettes were 40% off at Lowe’s although it wasn’t marked as such. Got 40lbs for $25, anxious to try them, in my only experience they burned noticeably longer. Time to trim this butt and get it to dry brining... up at 6am tomorrow to start smoking.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
They don't fit nicely in with other jars. Best is to get about half a dozen and mix your blend, then put them all together where they fit better. I have MMD, S&G, BBBR, and Pastrami, plus one with coarse salt.
