    Newer Pressure Cookers OK?

I have not seen much mention of this kitchen tool. The NEW ELECTRONIC pressure cookers are excellent. All the myths about someone else using a pressure cooker and having a bad result are dispelled.

The common one is about ______(you fill in the blank) exploding pea soup on the ceiling.HA, HA, HA. Never mentioning that was years ago, never followed the directions, using a really old stove top model, etc. etc..

I searched the AR site and saw a few meager references to pressure cookers-not sure why.

I have an InstaPot (no, I don't work/paid to promote them) and have made many, many fine cooks to go with my grilled items. I started with the infomercial PPXL. Liked pressure cooking so much, I upgraded to what I consider a one of the High End models.
These newer electrics are super safe and easy. Not the end all, but a great kitchen tool.

Prep time is still the same, cook time is fast.

    M.

I just got an Instant Pot for my mom for Christmas. I think she will like it alot, but honestly, she'll probably use it to make food for her dogs as much as anything else.

I'm going to get one for myself and my wife this month, probably, as well. I decided to wait until after Christmas, since after some research, I decided to get the Fagor Lux 6- or 8-quart version for us, as it is rated just a tiny bit higher than the Instant Pot version, and it is one of the few on the market that also can make yogurt like the Instant Pot. I think it came to pressure a good bit quicker than the Instant Pot, is why it was rated higher.

Anyways, glad to see I'm not the only one looking into these, and that they do actually work well and are useful.

Share with us some of the things you've done with yours?

I know one of the things we'll be using it for is likely goat... tough meat, but very flavorful. If done right, in a pressure cooker, it can be awesomely savory!

We have an InstantPot. I have used it a handful of times. For quick meals, it does a great job. There is a learning curve, but I can make Chicken Salsa Verde in about 30 minutes start to finish, and the family loves to shred it and make burritos. I have friends that use it 4-5 times per week with great success. They (InstantPot) make multiple sizes too... I'd recommend having one around. even if it is just for something simple like rice. The saute feature is nice also, so you can 'brown' things before pressure cooking them.
        My vote: Strong yes.

I'm surprised you say there are a few meager references to pressure cookers on AR. I did a search on AR for Instapot that turned up several posts, and contained within the posts are many links to recipes, cookbooks, and other equipment brands. Seems like a lot of information on pressure cooking for a bbq and grilling website.

Just like sous vide has taken off and has a lot of interest here... BBQ and grilling first, but generally cooking, and especially cooking MEAT is the passion here, in my experience.

I think we all like tools that actually deliver what they promise. Thanks for the review!

              Love mine too!

But no yoghurt setting (I'm not broken-hearted).

Hmm, I guess I'm old school on this one. I have the old style stovetop model with the weighted wobbler. Works every time, nothing electronic to fail, easy to fix, etc. Never felt the need to replace it.

Not that there's anything wrong with technology! Lord knows I embrace it every chance I get. And I've heard the Instant Pot is an excellent unit.

I've been big on pressure cookers for long time. I love our stovetop, and I've come to love the electric as well.

I also went for a stove top pressure cooker ... slightly newer school than Andy (no wobbler on my Fissler 8.5qt Vitaquick Pressure Cooker) ...

We have a stovetop one as well, which the wife uses occasionally. But. I am looking forward to the new cooker. Electric, for one - saves a spot on the stove. Programmable. Versatile. Lots of various functions.

I'm all about kitchen gadgets. lol

I got one to replace my broken crock pot. I made a texas chili. Have not had much time to use it yet.

Oops, got bit by words used in the search engine as Jerrybell infers. Apologies. No intention to soften the AR forums. I went with a generic pressure cooker search wording and others may have tried "InstaPot" or some other manufacturer-different results.

Anyway, I use mine mostly for sides with a KJ cook. Beans, potatoes, veges all work out well, especially when I run out of time.

Other things we do is Quiona, oatmeal, apple crisp (a misnomer), any rice especially wild rice, pasta. And with some smoked meats off the KJ: beef and vegetable soup; chili of all kinds. The list is growing.

                  M.

SWMBO has an Instant pot she uses a fair amount. It does a fine job, but I probably won't be using it myself. From my observations, it's another way to cook food - an alternative method that can be used instead of the methods I usually use. Main advantage being time, so it definitely has its place. SWMBO gets a kick out of the social media posts 'how do you cook ____ in an Instant Pot' and it's something like oatmeal. Why would you need to? It's not meant to be the only tool in the toolbox.

We have a smoker, 2 grills, 2 slow cookers, and a sous vide in addition to the Instant Pot, so when we have time I'll use those plus the stove and oven, and I'll leave the pressure cooking to her. 😊

The InstaPot is an excellent value, especially given the wide range of things it can do. I would love to see some cooks done for this forum, maybe it’s own sub-forum similar to SV. Long smokes are the hallmark of this site but there’s a lot to be said about the 30 minute meal as well.
