The PBC folks have a new toy for us!!

The PBC Skewers are in. I am looking forward to giving these a try. I can see doing some carne asada, tri-tip or dare I say Greek Gyro meat? I might order some tonight.

So, does anyone else have any interest? What do ya'll think of this new accessory? Gimick? Or a serious cooking tool to be considered?

Might've been bolloxed yesterday. Works fine now. Weird internet.

Seems useful, but unless I had a boatload of kabobs to do I wouldn't cook them on the PBC. With all the feedback from AR, why haven't they offered up reverse hooks yet? Seems like a more practical, and better selling accessory for the PBC.

I'm a little confused. Is the hole at the top for the rebar to go through? It looks small but that could just be the picture. I'm assuming the base is to make sure the food stays on the skewer. I am incredibly interested and have several ideas going through my head about using them.

The hole at the top is for a hook to go through, and then the hook goes on the rebar as normal. My post above about doing kabobs was based on an incorrect vision of how these were to be used. While they can be used for kabobs, they can be used in many other ways as well. In any event, I'd still rather see them come out with reverse hooks!

I'm thinking the hole at the top is for your current hooks to go through, so these hang-on-your-hooks.

Edit to add: I now see this on their page: "made to easily hang from your existing hooks."

I didn't even think of putting the hook through the hole. Makes total sense now.

I do like how you use your existing hooks to hang them from. The "T" at the bottom should help to keep food out of the fire too.
A few pork shoulders hanging from these would be a great thing to try. One thing I would be concerned with would be the juices snuffing out the fire directly under the meat. Having that much meat stacked over one spot might be an issue, but maybe not. I would think you would have to use the 15" skewers though.

I think the PBC would use an awful lot of charcoal to do a few skewers of meat....but no doubt it'll be tasty!

Just like the hooks, the grate, and the other modified things I have acquired to use in my PBC, they are all tools that work best to use with some things and not others....

Personally I don't fire up my PBC for strictly "short" cooks so kabobs are probably out... for that task I have my gasser or my kettle with SnS... this is why I always preach that the PBC with Kettle w SnS makes a great backyard combination.

I could see doing short cook items in conjunction with longer cook items if the PBC was already fired up for that. I'm also getting visions of being a good alternative for some traditional rotisserie style cooks since meat basically bastes itself in the PBC.

I will probably add it to the Christmas list... along with that new grate for the SnS.

Great, just what I need, another thing to fuel the MCS. Thanks Spinaker.
