I have a Masterbilt 30" gas smoker which I really enjoy. When I try to use the A-Maze-N tube pellet smoker in it, the smoke eventually decreases to about the size of smoke off of a cigarette. I have placed the tube in various locations on the bottom of the smoker but still there just isn't much smoke. I have it raised off of the smoker floor about 2 1/2" between the gas burner & the smoker door. This phenomena only happens when I have the burner going. When I smoke bacon or cheese, I don't use the burner & the tube works wonderfully.....nice thin, continuous smoke for the entire time. But turn on the burner & the smoke almost disappears. I live in Colorado at an altitude of 5000 ft. but I've been told that this tube, using pellets, should burn at most any reasonable altitude. Yes, I do have the pellets lit very well & do not put the tube in the smoker for about 15-20 minutes after lighting them. Just wondering if anyone on this forum has had such an experience with the tube. When I'm hot smoking, I have to use a Smoke Daddy smoke generator attached to my smoker but it requires more attention than the tube & the smoke quality is not as consistent.

I’d say it’s an oxygen issue. I use the tube in my pellet cooker and have no issues, but my guess is that with the gas burner on, the propane is consuming most of the oxygen and the pellets are getting smothered.
Dont know now that I have a solution, ðŸ˜

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

Five hit the nail on the head... Oxygen.. which is why it works when the burners are off. Plug in a fish aquarium pump and insert the line into the cook chamber via a metal tube or pipe to verify. I run an external Smoke Daddy Infusion rig on my flame thrower. It uses the pump to feed oxygen to the pellets and then is piped into the chamber. Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I know it is an oxygen problem but I just have to figure out a way to get more into the chamber to keep the pellets lit & smoking good.
FlaBouy, you said you also use a Smoke Daddy. Do you only use pellets in yours? I used to but the folks at Smoke Daddy advised me to use wood chips & if I wanted to use some pellets, it would be okay to put a handful in with the chips. I didn't have much luck with just using the pellets alone. We are talking about the same piece of equipment aren't we......a round aluminum canister with removable top & bottom & an aquarium pump that blows air through a metal tube inside the canister & into the cook chamber via a short threaded metal pipe?
