Do I just toss this kitchen scale?

I bought this in 2006 and it's been a great scale. I noticed this site recommends it. But now it's malfunctioning. Its display is missing parts of the digits, and it seems inaccurate as well. Before I order another one has anyone successfully repaired this scale somehow?

Uh, you have tried replacing the battery, right? I've got this scale, and it seems like what you described is what I saw when the battery finally died. I got several years off the first one. Been a while, so this may be wrong, but I think it uses 2032 lithium button batteries. It might need two.

Well, Amazon says it uses 4 AAA batteries. That's how long it's been since the last time I replaced mine ...

I recharged the batteries, and when that didn't work I charged another set of rechargeables. I guess I'll buy some alkaline batteries before ordering another scale just in case.

10 years seems like a respectable time.

Before you toss it, though, you might as well try and disassemble it: maybe there's something obviously wrong with it that can be fixed even if you're not an electronics wizard. Plus it's fun (to me at least)

Once or twice I was ready to give up on a scale, removed the weighing plate, cleaned and replaced it, and it went back to working properly.

I'll try it. I already ordered a new one but it wouldn't hurt to have a second scale.

I've been using the My Weigh KD-7000 for years. I've never had one die on me. We use them in our baking classes, and our students aren't gentle. Lifetime warranty, which I've never had to use.
