    Grill Matt/Rug

At the request of my wife to keep from staining the rocks that make up our back porch, I have tried two different grill mats/rugs. Both failed my test. Both were cheap (I guess you get what you pay for). The first one was a kind of dryer lint felt. It soaked up all the grease all right, as well as water from rain or sprinklers. That is until either a critter, or my wifes jack Russell, Brooke chewed off the greasy sections and shredded it across the back yard. The other one was a rubberized one that was slick as owl snot when damp, or even a tiny bit greasy. I really don't want to slip at 2000 and catch myself by planting my hand on a 600 degree sear plate on the side of my grill. Has anyone had any luck with anything like this? All ideas accepted.

I like the cement board grill pads, like thin colored Duroc. They have them at Home Depot, and Amazon too but they're a bit pricier at Amazon last I checked. I currently have 3 and plan to add a 4th soon enough. They're big, but really they're never big enough, stray coals always fall off of them. http://www.homedepot.com/p/The-Origi...C-BK/202448124

No they're rough cement, they spray off pretty good with the hose. They're HOT in barefeet in the summer sun though.

I had two nice, thick rubber BBQ pads that had ridges so that traction was not lost when I had the BBQ's on the porch. So mine were different than your experience with rubber. However, the dogs LOVED the juices that were trapped in the rubber grooves. Just like your lint model, parts of it ended up in the yard. I have seen what Huskee showed above and they look legit.

I agree with Huskee on that cement mat from Home Depot. I got one but the associate I spoke with there said to make sure not to leave them out on a deck full time, it might discolor the wood/trex/etc underneath over time.

Mine is a bit discolored....but it's due to the deck fading around 'em, you know, tan lines.

texastweeter, Huskee, and the Other's are Giving You Good Advice! David Parrish first recommended the "Grill Matts" to Me with the Fair Warning that they were "Not Cheap", but My New Deck Wasn't either! Regarding Staining I have Harbor Freight FiberGlass Welding Blankets Doubled under the Grill Matts, No Problems So Far❓

I like the cheap welding blanket idea.

do you leave those out in the weather, or store them. We have a rock slab back porch, I am not that worried about discoloration, the rocks don't seem to fade.

Dan, do you have a preferred provider for the mats. Welding blankets, well, got plenty of those out at the shop.

Thanks for the author's thread and also the users for the replies, I know the 2017 theme, but now you can reopen BBQ season. Well, I just became the new owner of a barbecue and a barbecue and would like to take care of safety in advance, thanks again to all! In general, it reminded me of a funny story. Once I was with my family at a friend's house, for a barbecue. He has a dog, and he is quite active with him. We fried the meat, everything was great, we decided to take the table out to the veranda to eat. I also installed a rubber mat for my daughter's chair. But this was not a good idea, for she was feeding the dog and the whole carpet was stained. I took the carpet home and even had to call the guys from dazzlingcarpetrepairs.com.au. However, alas, there were still spots of fat. My friend had to buy a new rug)
              Hahaha dogs)
