    Moisture meter for BBQ wood

Hi to everyone . What's a good moisture meter for cherry. Oak , pear . Apple and most smoking woods thanks .

Here's the one I use https://www.harborfreight.com/digita...ter-67143.html small, reads temp too, and inexpensive at ~$14.00. I try to shoot for ~20% or under, but I don't worry if it's around 25% either. I've tested fresh cut wood against chunks from Fruita and it appears to be very accurate in noting drastic differences. I'm not saying it's NASA accurate, but it might be- how would I know right? Lol.

Here is the one I use. Be careful with the tines. They can bend if the unit is dropped. It works well, I have been using it now for almost two years, with out issue. I think it is pretty accurate.

Do you use that guy with a fresh split, or with something already cut? Where do you poke it in?

I use it on both. You test at the end of a log. Into the grain. Test towards the outside middle and center, that will give you a pretty good idea. EdF

I just realized I don't have a moist meter! Now I'm gonna have to buy one. I'll see if I can't pick one up today.

      HeeHee, same meter I have!
Fer $14.00 I might pick one up, so when I go buy loads I can get some idea what's what...
Mine will get more use on hardwoods, etc. for woodworkin' projects...

The calendar is a decent indicator if you know when it was cut and split.
