I have one and it works great - once you get it going. I found this just poking around one day, and I think it helped me: http://pelletheads.com/index.php?topic=38718.0
Once you get the pellets lit it produces good smoke. I've also used it twice to cold smoke cheese for about 2 hours. My advice, which came from Tim at Blaz'N Grills, is to start it early - like 20-30 minutes before your cook and make sure it's producing the smoke you want. I've had to "restart" with the torch several times to get the pellets burning consistently. Start it with the grill/smoker lid up for 5-10 minutes, hit it with the torch again if necessary, then close the grill/smoker lid and you'll see the results. I'd also suggest you leave the Smoker Pro's "lid" set back 2-3" for the whole cook, even though they suggest putting on top once it starts smoking.
The other thing to do, if you want a shorter burn, is to put a can or wad up some foil in the "back" part of the thing and fill the rest of the space with pellets, to the top of it. That has given me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours of smoke which is all I need most of the time. If you fill the whole thing to the top it's supposed to run for 4 - 6 hours but I've never tried that.
Good luck, it takes some practice, but it does work well.
I am cooking on a gas grill, and there is a lot of air flow. This seems to produce much more smoke. I have used the metal pouch and it works well for about an hour and a half. I would think this would last longer.
It looks like this one will use less fuel if not fully filled, so I can adjust as needed to get the smoking time and volume I want.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but this does look like it will do what I want, and may be more than I need, but I wont be wanting to get something else if the Amazen Pellets tray is not enough.
