    Slicer for bacon

OK I need the best bang for the buck slicer that is long enough to slice bacon. My cheapo can only slice about 6 inch long slices but the belly was only 10 inches wide so I had to cut the bacon in half so only got 5 inch slices. I feel like I'm making bacon bits while frying that up Grrrrr.

How much do you want to spend?

True, I would recommend the Univex but I doubt he would want to spend that kind of money. I wouldn't. My old man got lucky. He paid a fraction of the MSRP. Price is usually a deciding factor. EdF

I have a cheapo deli slicer. It does the same thing if meat is hot. However, if the meat is really cold I can get really long slices out of it. If it's too cold it will overload and blow a fuse. Spinaker just got a really nice slicer as a present but as he noted it was a cheap one. It is probably much better suited for what you are wanting to do.

I just bought on of these on "let go"

We carry a large selection of Meat Processing Equipment and Products including grinders, sausage stuffers, mixers, dehydrators, saws, smokers and more!

It works great for slicing jerky, and it has a built in sharpener. It is kind of hard to clean up because you need a screwdriver and hex head wrenches to get the blade off. I always make sure the meat is partially frozen. It makes it easier to slice

Look for a commercial one that's refurbished?

Also, check Craig's list or online auctions.

Looks like I can get 8" slices with this. But at least it's on track with what I need.

Look for ads of restaurants or other food establishments going out of business and selling their equipment.

Danjohnston949 I hear ya, Dan. I grew up in a large military family and spent 12 years on active duty myself. Frugality is in my DNA.
