    New Pit Gloves arrived

I ordered some new BBQ gloves the other day. The black pair is from Artisan Griller. They are food handling gloves. i was tired of burning my self while taking butts and briskets off the smoker. The previous pairs I had were those large orange gloves that were slippery, bulky and clumsy. These are much tighter and actually give you some dexterity.

The other gloves are Lohas oven gloves. They say they are rated to 900 F + which I highly doubt is even close to being accurate. They are tight for my big old hands and the glove only covers the immediate wrist. Unlike the Pit Mitt which covers up to the lower arm. I am a little disappointed in that but I will see how the work. Sometimes the longer glove like the Pitt Mitt is a pain to get on in a hurry. I got the oven gloves to handle my cast iron while seasoning. My Pitt Mitts are being left at my Dad's place so I have them there when I do cooks at his place.

I will report back when I have used both of these. The oven gloves will get used tonight while doing some seasoning on a few pans. And the food gloves will get some action this weekend when I do a PB cook.

Nice Spinaker . I ordered these 2 months ago to replace my original ove gloves, and they are THE BEST! I can hold 400 degree metal for a solid 2 minutes, they are super tacky, and I can touch the meat directly. Way better than the ove gloves!!

The ones I got were similar but not the same brand. I hated them. Too clumsy and no dexterity. Your must be different than the ones I had. I'm glad they work out for you.

Any silicon gloves Iike this that I've ordered always end up splitting between the fingers. Anybody else have this problem or am i just hard on gloves?

I have a pair of these, I agree there isn't much dexterity but i dont think you need that much dexterity when moving meat or handling hot grates.

I'll await your report, Spinaker, especially for the food-handling gloves. Right now I'm using rubber-coated G-Tek gloves like these over which I pull on a pair of extra large nitrile gloves. That works pretty good for me. I toss the nitrile gloves when I'm done and launder the G-Tek gloves.

Yes Sir. massive bear mitts on this one, my friend. One person likened shaking my hand to shaking a 5-pack of Johnsville brats. Sometimes I break those XXL gloves even when its just my bare hands I am trying to put them on. smokinfatties

LOL Ok just making sure! The XXL ones work for me but all others break, especially with thermal gloves underneath

Spinaker, I do sort of feel like OJ Simpson in the courtroom ("if the gloves don't fit you must acquit") when pulling the nitrile gloves over the G-Tek gloves, but the combo works great for my size hands.

Spinaker - I have those same black textured gloves from Artisan. They are fantastic for BBQ and for working with bags in a sous vide bath.

Saweeet!!! Have you pulled anything with them? I was thinking that I could forgo the bear claws and just use these.

I gave up on bear claws and got OXO claws. But as far as the gloves... what Dr ROK said.

I have a set that might be the same as the rubber looking gloves. So far I like them. In fact I just used them when seasoning my new cast iron pans. Thought You'd like that Spinaker

Damn right man!! I would think the hot iron would melt them. But if not, I night give them a try for that too. I was planning on just using them for food.

      After I do a second seasoning I'll post a pic or 2.
I only handled the pans at the 300* mark but didn't feel any heat. So far a good deal.

Well I haven't used the Artisan Griller gloves yet. But I have used the Lohas Ove- Glove. They are not nearly as good as the Pit Mitt. I was pretty disappointed. I did a test to see which gloves worked better. I put 2-Lodge 12" skillets in the oven and heated them to 450 F. I let them heat soak for about 1/2 hour and then grabbed them both at the same time to see which glove allowed the heat through first. The Pit Mitt won with flying colors. I would say I was able to hold the skillet twice as long with the Pit Mitt as opposed to the Ove-Glove. After about only 5 seconds, the Ove-glove was getting hot. and I mean HOT. The Pit Mitt lasted 20 seconds before I had to set it down.

This was a huge disappointment, considering they are rated to a ridiculous 950 F on Amazon. I knew it wasn't gonna be that good but even at 450 F they were totally inferior to the Pit Mitt. They also lack the longer sleeve protection that you get with the Pit Mitt.

So lesson learned. Stay with the Pit Mitt.

I will test the Artisan Griller ones this weekend.

How has your experience been with the wooden grate cleaner? Mine is still working like a charm on my Grillgrates. Don't know if you are using it on a different grill and if so, how has it worked?
