We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).

We smoked a couple of those grinding horse radish a few years ago. I wish I could find the picture of my wife wearing swim goggles and doing that, think Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein
Grills: 22" Weber (wood handles) (another Weber on the way), Lodge Sportsman "hibachi" Smoker: None yet, part of why I joined Thermometer: 10+ yr old Taylor digital thermometer with remote Sous Vide: Anovo Imersion Circulator (1st gen) Coffee Roaster: Hot Top Coffee Roaster Adult Beverages: Fighting Cock Bourbon, Leinny Shandy, Troegs Mad Elf
I have a newer Oster. We beat it with ice often. Make sure that the connection between the blade and motor is metal. The black & decker one we got was plastic and died a horrible death.
Regardez: My Eldest...

Thank you all for your responses! This is for a Christmas gift for my son.
#1 had heard great things about the Vitamix. She went to a hair appointment via Costco. She was kinda liking the Ninja, and called me. She was telling me she liked the Ninja accessories when the Vitamix salesman explained to her the world according to Vitamix.
Soooooo, long story short, she bought two. Apparently we also had an urgent need.
so, MBMorgan and Cheef Costco and Vitamix thank you!!
Congrats on the Vitamix decision ... you won't regret it. Only one caveat: The recipe book that comes with it is pretty bad. We eventually gave up on it and went back to "normal" recipe sources. FWIW, if you ever want to try soup, I've got an original tomato-basil soup recipe that I'll gladly share.
I have the Ninja. I like it a lot but a word of caution - I had to return my first one because the handle will break from the lid. I returned it to COSTCO and got another because I liked it's function. I make sure when taking the lid off I use my thumbs under the lip of the lid. If the handle breaks, the machine will not work. My daughter and her roommates went in together for a Vitamix. They spent that much to make nutritious foods. I don't think it has seen anything healthier than reduced sugar margarita mix. For that, she says it's the best machine in the world.
I bought my BlendTec a couple years ago mainly because I enjoyed the "Will It Blend" videos the company makes. I figure any company that engages in such a fun series of videos is a company I want to support.
Also, the BlendTec is a fantastic blender. I like it better than my sister's Vitamix but either one is a good choice.
