You absolutely do not want a beer can or Turkey Cannon or anything with solid sides because the metal blocks airflow to the cavity and impedes heat and smoke. Read more here: http://amazingribs.com/recipes/chick...ed_turkey.html

I use a Spanek vertical roaster. It does a fantastic job, and doesn't get in the way.
that link is there just to show a picture. I don't know if Amazon actually sells it.

Has anyone even tried using a Turkey Cannon?
I followed the link that advises against using a Turkey Cannon and understand Meatheads claim with beer can chicken and his claim the same limitations hold true with the Turkey cannon.
With the Turkey hanging on the tube, gravity opens the cavity up possibly creating more airflow. The holes in the tube would seem to also allow more airflow. The liquid put in the tube due to the holes seems to be below the turkey cavity. Anecdotal evidence indicates the turkey cooks faster. Marketing claims the Turkey cooks inside out as well as outside in.

Even if the liquid wouldn't add moisture, wouldn't the function as a Turkey rack still be useful?

The three or four beer-can chickens I have pellet grilled all turned out quite good. It does work just fine.
The prelude to Beer Can Chicken: Yes, I know your Beer Can Chicken tastes wonderful. Yes, it is moist and flavorful. Yes, I know your neighbors and family think your Beer Can Chicken is fabulous. It absolutely positively is fabulous. What’s not to love about roast chicken?
Must watch video on this subject, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oiXjJb-7BY
Thank you, Meat Head,
Because Beer Can chicken is a waste of good beer, use Coors Light--No Better Beer to Waste.Last edited by bbqLuv; November 24, 2021, 09:12 AM.
