    Outdoor Lighting

With the time change last night it is going to be dark when I put the steaks on tonight. I have a shop flood light that gets mighty hot after about 5 minutes. What type of outdoor lighting do you all use? My BBQ's are a bit removed from the house and I don't have electricity that goes to the area - thus the shop light. During the summer I have a couple of solar flood lights that are adequate. Anything out there that is battery powered that does a good job of illuminating without killing your pocket book? Maybe rechargeable?

    Few options:

~Most of the time I just put on one of those lamps that have an elastic band and go around your head. That way the light is always shining on what you are looking at and you aren't contending so much with shadows. Looks a little goofy but handy as can be. My wife got me a two pack for Christmas last year of the Stanley ones (similar to the link provided).

~I have a rechargeable lantern that works ok.

~Also you can buy an attachment that turns a large propane tank (like the one on a gas grill) into a lamp/lantern. You would still need to buy the lantern part. You can run up to 3 attachments off this one.

Those would be a few ideas.

Thanks Nate - I am going to check out the propane tank idea. I have a few headlamp things the family has given over the years. They don't illuminate an area well. Much appreciated!

I was a Costco the other day and found a "Cat" (like the earthmoving equipment) rechargeable work light that has two different lumen settings, I cant say about durability yet but I love it so far. Only $30.00

Smog Man - I just ordered the CAT light from Costco. I will let everyone on this post know how it works when it arrives. Thank you, again. It looks like what I am in search of.

I used to use headlamps at work. When they first switched to leds I bought one with three brightness levels. The levels were:
    1 Not bright enough
    2 Even dimmer
    3 Your kidding me

The ones they make today are much brighter. I just looked at a bunch on Amazon and here is a link to some by Energizer. If you get either of the two brightest ones, you should be happy.

tbob4, Like You my Soffit Flood Lights don't provide enough illumination to monitor the Grill Properly! Based on the Recomendation of a Fellow Pit Club Members Recomendation, I purchased a ManLaw LED, Flex Neck, Battery Powered, with a Magnetic or Clamp On Base! I used it Tonight on My Weber Performer Deluxe Grill with a Vortex! I Slow and Seared 2 Strip Steaks! Not Perfect but Not Bad!

For some reason when I clicked on the photos they would not pop up. Even small, they look delicious and the lighting looks good - thank you.

Got it to work by refreshing. That is a really good illuminator and great looking steaks. Thanks again.

@SMOG MAN: My CAT light arrived. Wow - what great advice. Word of caution to anyone buying - do not turn it on facing you. I still have the afterglow of the light in my eye. It is dusk here right now (5:20 Pacific). I had to go out with it, though. It may be the best thing since sliced bread. Not better than Breadhead's bread, nor good BBQ but pretty good none-the-less. Thanks for all the advice. I may order a second one or use this as my primary area light source and go with @Danjohnston949 's for the specific cooking area. I appreciated all of the feedback.

This is the CAT light in total darkness from 10 feet (photo 1) and 20 feet (photo 2) with 2 of my smokers. I'm not quite the photographer that others are but I hope it illuminates (pun intended) the quality of the product.

tbob4 That's impressive! Would you mind listing the model number and/or a picture of your portable CAT? (Our cat is 20+ pounds and definitely not portable. Or rechargeable for that matter. But she does purr a lot...)

          Thanks!

ecully, I just checked and Costco is out of stock right now. Amazon has it: https://www.amazon.com/California-Au...ag=amazi0a8-20 but as you can see it is $53, while it was $30 at Costco.

Yes - I waved at them. When I shined it up to see if they waved back I was told it messed with their guidance system so I can't do that again.
