Anybody have any information on this new BBQ grill mat I keep seeing on social media? I hope Meathead has an answer for me?

Welcome Brownstone! I'm not on social media much (just a little Facebook) and haven't seen anything. What's the name of the one you're seeing?
We'd love to get an intro from you over in the Introduce Yourself channel when you get a minute.

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).

There are a lot of variations on this idea. I don't see any temp range specified. Some should not be used over 500° F. I see a pic of a steak with grill marks sitting on one of these mats - hmmmmmm. Mats are good for cooking below sear temps for sticky items like fish, small items like veggies and shrimp that could drop through grates and of course eggs and what not.

I have never used these before. Do you still get that grill flavor? Even though the food never touches the fire? I have always been really curious about that one. Wouldn't a perforated grill mat be a much better option; like the Frog mats or even the perforated Weber Stainless grill pan? Max Good

Buying one of those for whatever price would end up being a $1000 investment at the vet's office! I used to BBQ on my deck and had a really nice heavy duty rubber mat to catch the drippings from my pull out shelves. The BBQ's are in my gravel area now and the 1/8 eaten mat went into the trash. I could not imagine what would happen if I emptied the food from the cooking mat into a bowl and left it off to the side of the BBQ.

Sorry folks that it took me so long to reply. The grill mat I saw was a video but Pit Boss posted a link from Amazon.
It seems that after reading some other posts that it is more of a gimmick than anything else. I was truly surprised by the amount of answers that I have. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to the website. It is an honor to be among you all.
Cheers!

I was really hoping this was some sort of grilling mat you could place on the ground and put the grills onto. To keep the grass from getting singed and burnt. Been looking for something like it since the smoker leaves a nice ring in the grass...
