hi folks, I'm new to the forum and hope to learn a lot here! My question is this; has anybody ever tried to install a BQ 300 on a Primo Oval or a BGE? I just bought the BQ300 for my Primo and I didn't realize until I received it that this thermometer is not made for a ceramic smoker. However it's obviously a very well built thermometer and I would be willing to drill out the small hole in my Primo to accept the BQ300 if I knew I wouldn't be causing issues with the ceramic by drilling. I would appreciate any thoughts or advice on this. Thank you

Welcome to The Pit! I can't answer this for you, but I'll tag a few ceramic owners to see if they can help out when they get a chance. Breadhead CeramicChef fuzzydaddy David Parrish. There are of course many others as well.

Cookers:
Large Big Green Egg with a Ceramic Grill Store rack system, and the SnS setup.
Weber Genesis SA-E-330 LP INDIGO with SS Grates, Weber Crafted frame kit, baking stone, griddle (2/3), all from Ace Hardware.
For the first time in a long time I have no kettles as I gave them all away.
Everything Else:
SnS #3 with certificate. I was their first customer.
Sous Vide equipment.
SnS and Thermoworks instant read and leave-in thermometers.
Grill Grates for BGE.
Kingsford Blue Bag, Weber lighter cubes, Weber charcoal chimneys.
Rubs with salt: Meat Church Holy Cow.
Rubs without salt: Home-mixed versions of previously sold SnS Grills Rocky's Rub and Not Just for Beef using their recipe. SPOG.
Spices: Lots of 'em.
Hello Mossy34! I have not done any drilling in my BGE, so I did some looking around and found this Enlarging thermometer hole thread and this I drilled a hole in the dome...... Photos thread, both on the egghead forum. You might want to search the Primo grill forums as well. You mentioned causing issues and that is also my concern with drilling; potential damage if something goes wrong, and warranty issues. I hope this is helpful. See you around The Pit!

SlushDeezey on my iPhone with iOS 9.3.5 here's my screen shot. I've drawn a red circle around "Write something..." which is where you would tap on to select, type your post, then tap on the Post Reply button. Do you see the "Write something..." at the bottom of the thread on your iPhone and iPad?

Don't get the "write something". The box is just white and when I click on it nothing happens.

Try clearing Safari's cache then restart. If that doesn't fix it and you can start a new thread, post your issue here: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/forum/suggestion-box If you can't start a new thread let me know and I'll do it for you.

I'd probably not do that. I've got a Primo and I don't even use the thermometer that comes with it. I basically only use my maverick. I don't know how useful knowing the temp in the top of the dome is for cooking. There always seems to be a discrepancy between the primo thermometer and my maverick - not always a consistent discrepancy either. I think youre better off with a thermometer that mounts on the grill grates. That's my 2 cents anyway.
