I don't want to get off on wrong foot being new and all, so I apologize in advance if this comes off the wrong way...
...But has anyone attempted to build their own Slow N Sear? Curious to get some better information on the specs and the success anyone has had in crafting their own.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

The SnS is so cleverly designed an manufactured, it'd be quite a feat to make one yourself that does exactly what it does, and remains waterproof cook after cook. My suspicions are either: you'll fashion something that will work so-so (but then again might as well use a couple bricks and a bread pan for water to achieve a so-so function) or you'll spend so much time fashioning it correctly that you'll wish you'd have just bought one for $90. I don't mean to spoil your optimistic industriousness, but it's akin to making your own kettle grill I think. Might just be worth it to buy one and have an American made product that will last a lifetime and support a mom & pop establishment.
That's like trying to make your own sofa. Sofa makers buy lumber, foam, fabric in huge quantities. They pay a fraction of what someone pays for their raw materials. Plus a sofa maker only has 6 hours of labor in a sofa. It would take you weeks.
Dude this is just the wrong place to try and bootleg a SnS. The wrath of the pit will fall upon you. Trust me it will not fair well for you. I will be the first to asked you be banned.
You got a better idea build it. I'll buy it. You want to steal what's been built .... Never mind the rules of this forum prohibit me from saying
Oh and you came off the wronge way. Just sayin

Actually, go ahead and try it. Buy the stainless sheet and have someone shear it to the needed lengths. Then find a fab shop that can bend it and weld it up for you. Just an educated guess here but you're going to be in the 3 to 4 hundred dollar range before you have a finished product.
Maybe it's just me but that doesn't seem to make much sense.
x_90day_14631_DennisComp , funny you should ask... There have been a couple guys here that have successfully fabricated /created a Slow'N'Sear.... apparently from everything I have heard they have really had a lot of success with the performance... In fact they have had so much success that they decided to create a company called Adrenaline Barbecue Company and they now manufacture and sale and own the Slow'N'Sear.
That is right... the ones who designed and brought the Slow'n'Sear to market and own the company are.... shall we say very active and influential members of the pit and have a massive amount of respect, loyalty, and admiration from a lot of members.
I can tell you that the SnS is HEAVY and the investment in stainless steel would be pretty substantial.
I work in a processing plant. They made us some small baskets for our paper trash to hang on our stands. Nothing near the size of the SnS, and the cost per basket was around $500.
It's been made abundantly clear of the legal ramifications. Spending hundreds of dollars on something of less quality than what you can get for the price of a SnS is not the best of routes, even before you face the litigation process.

Huskee - Someone who would so willing and brazeningly steal from another is either the village simpleton or a thief of the first magnitude. Gaining and enforcing intellectual property rights isn't easy or inexpensive.
x_90day_14631_DennisComp welcome to The Pit! We're glad you're here. I'll come out and say what others have alluded to. In addition to being the Pit Boss around these parts I own the company that makes and sells the Slow 'N Sear.
@everyone else - Folks relax it's his right to make whatever the heck he wants in his garage as long as it's for personal use and not resale.
@back to Dennis - I'll give you pointers on whatever design you have in mind. I admit I have a bit of intellectual curiosity in that I really wonder how it can be done in someone's garage. You must have something in mind though since you started this thread.
The SnS may look simple, but it is NOT cheap to make even in mass production quantities. You'll likely find whatever you make at home will not match up to the capabilities or the longevity of the Slow 'N Sear's design and materials unless you spend a whole lot more than what a Slow 'N Sear costs.
Tell you what. This thread has gotten pretty heated. I'm closing it. x_90day_14631_DennisComp if you want to make your own SnS send me a PM and let me know your plans. I'll offer my best advice.
Everyone let's brush this one off and start over from scratch. Some folks just like to tinker and that's all I think Dennis had in mind. There's nothing wrong with that.
