    New Toy

So my trusty Cuisinart stick/immersion blender crapped the bed last week when I was trying to mix up a can of tahini that had settled hard on the bottom. Something I had done before successfully. Anyway, the shaft end started smoking and stinking. Apparently some bushing or bearing burned up from the stress. So I had to get an immediate replacement, of course, and bought this, which was The Wirecutter's top pick. It's the Braun Multiquick 7 3-in-1. So far, I really like it. The mini chopper cup is quite a bit larger than the one that I used to have with the Cuisinart and it did a great job turning a medium onion, 5 cloves of garlic and a 1 inch knob of ginger onto a smooth paste for the Indian dish I made last night. I used the stick as well to turn a can of diced tomatoes into crushed. It was fast, and ready to clean since it doesn't have vent ports on the side of the bell to grab a hold of stuff as it's chopping.

We've had a Braun immersion blender with attachments since about 1997. That thing is still running strong! Wish it was stainless steel, like that one you have.

And if memory serves Dewesq55 you were the one to turn us on to 2-min mayo with the immersion blender. When I saw the taller cup, that was the first thing I thought of. My accessory set-up is roughly the same with the Cuisinart brand. But my cup is labeled with measurements.

SheilaAnn you do remember correctly about the mayo. The cup on this one has marked graduations also, but they don't have any contrast so that are really difficult to read. A minor blunder by Braun in my opinion. I still have 2 of the Cuisinart cups with the black graduations. I love them and am not getting rid of them any time soon.

Against the black granite in the photo, the markings are hard to see. Glad you saved the old cups!

SheilaAnn - trust me, they are hard to read against any background. It's like they are just etched into the plastic but not given any coloration to keep make them visible. Really a bad design, but it's a relatively minor point.

That looks like a solid blender to me! I have the Braun equivalent. The accessory I use the most (by far) is the whisk, since I make hollandaise/bearnaise sauce every now and then.

I make Kenji's bearnaise or hollandaise using the immersion blender. Recipes are in his Food Lab book.

Our stick blender came with that contraption and I finally tried using it just a few days ago to grind peppercorns for steak au poivre, didn't do so hot on pepper corns. My wife tells me I picked the one thing it's not good at. Enjoy the new toy!

Off topic, just noted your new photo avatar (or new to me because I sometimes miss these details). Great catches!
