    Buying binge advice?

I'm going to the States next week and I'm going to buy a bunch of stuff for BBQ. Anything I should add? Here's my shopping list.

    Weber 22" premium grill
    Maverick ET732 temp probe
    hovergrill
oxo knife, buy together with knife sharpener
    burger press
    fire starters x2
cutting board with lip for board sauces

Anything else I should stock up on? This is my last trip to America until Christmas. I'm especially interested in a digital thermometer that works with your cell phone, but I can't find anything worthwhile. The iGrill2 has quality problems and sending things back to be replaced overseas is a total pain in the neck. The Maverick model that has a bluetooth connection isn't recommended either. I really really want a pretty graph but if there isn't a quality one out there, I'll have to go with the Maverick 732.

I'm getting a burger press to make making large numbers of burgers easy. My bar cookouts are getting popular and I think I can make a go of trying to charge for it. It won't be big money but it'll be fun. It helps the best burger most people have had is McDonald's.

I have an SnS and have already ordered the cheapo thermopen, didn't mention that. I thought about Meathead's book. Maybe! But we've already got so much here on the site and my bookshelf is full of unread books anyway.

Looks like you have a good list with the addition of the book and Thermopen.

You might want to check with the airline about bringing any type of firestarter on the plane.

You might want to add some Grill Grates to that list and a long thin meat hook/wiggle stick.👌

I would highly recommend getting a couple replacement probes with longer cords for your Mav.
          Cover for your weber

Again, it kills me that you can not get there what is made there. China makes just about everything, yet no access to the finished products for the general population. Strange model they have over there.

Selling things is a completely different model. For BBQ for instance, hardly anyone does it American style, so the Weber kettle and all these accessories would flop. Chinese use box grills to cook mass numbers of tiny kebabs, that's their style.

I have a cover. Replacement probes, eh? Yeah I suppose that's a good idea. It's going to be a huge pain if one of them breaks. I'm just such a tightwad and like getting the bare minimum. Fifteen bucks each though, and I gotta buy 2 to take advantage of the longer length.

Speaking to another tightwad... There's nothing worse than your probes going bad and waiting a few weeks for new ones to arrive in the mail.😡

It's kind of like having a spare tire, or not... When you're out in the middle of nowhere and you have a flat.😳

Spices/ingredients that you can only get over here, maybe?

They wont let you bring the fire-starters, tried that last time I flew to Canada.

Do some of Meathead's Chinatown Char Siu ribs on your Weber Kettle & SnS. Serve them to your Chinese buddies and see what they think.

Ha ha! I'm sure they'd be good. But that recipe looks like a lot of work and a lot of the marinade ingredients are hard to come by. I'm gonna go nuts when I get back with my new grill and equipment. I already had an offer to go and cook out at the Hangzhou Che'fle hotel's outdoor BBQ party today (Friday). I had to turn it down because I had a previous engagement, but they were going to pay train, hotel, meals, and an extra 500 yuan just to come and cook for their party. It would have been chaos as I wouldn't have had my regular grill I wouldn't have any ingredients. I would just have to raid the hotel pantry and see what turned up, and then use one of those awful box grills. Really regretted I couldn't come because it would have been a ton of fun. The last time they had one of these parties it didn't stop until 5am. Oh well, next time.
