What cooking/food-themed presents did you get this year?

My Christmas seems to have been quite cooking-oriented!

First, I received a wonderful knife sharpener (and exquisite handmade vase that sits in my home office) from my Secret Santa here on The Pit.

From my family the big surprise was a Cosari 6-qt Air Fryer! I've always wanted one, but never got around to pulling the trigger. I was so excited about it that I used it last night even! (Wow, I get it. It crisped up a frozen breaded chicken patty and hash brown better than any microwave could and did it in sixteen minutes start-to-finish. In an oven, this all would have taken over half an hour!)

I also got some half-sheet-pan stainless wire racks to replace my aging ones that are starting to rust a bit (rust bad yall). I also got a jerky rack for my Chimp, so I now can do a whole eye of round roast's worth of jerky at a time and not just half. Yum.

I received Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat, which is a book I've been wanting to read for quite some time.

In the slightly-dangerous department, I was gifted this cute set of ever-increasing chile flakes:

(One starts with the Carolina Reaper one, right?)

And the gift for which I am still laughing about......yall know my obsession over HEB's made-in-store flour tortillas. My wife got me.....wait for it.....and yes, there is such a thing....

It's an HEB Tortilla Throw! I love it! It is quite soft, too! (Those outside of Texas are utterly bewildered, I am sure, after all, it's "just" a grocery store, and those of yall in this State are like....yeah, I want one, too.)

So what ended up under yall's tree?

Well, the Secret Santa stuff: prep tubs, torch, and chimichurri… also, a potato ricer, a Fireboard Pulse + probe pouches + wired probes, and not exactly food related, but also a fire blanket, for if stuff gets out of control.

I also have a potato ricer. It makes a significant difference in the creaminess of mashed potatoes! (A trick is not to overload it, else potato 'shavings' will leak out the top and not get 'riced.')

ID:	1682906 In addition to the Secret Santa stuff I posted over on that thread, I received a bag of coal ( see photo) and a gift certificate to a local high end steak house. Both from my son. Oh the coal is FOGO lump. 😊😉

Wifey and I don’t exchange gifts anymore. We figure there’s no point.

I got one of these: https://3dotwood.com/products/kenji-...e-salt-cellars

Been wanting one for quite a while and I know it is a pretty crazy price to pay for a wood box but the thing is pretty sweet.

No pics available as the items are still in their shipping boxes, but I received a few nice BBQ items...

        1. OnlyFire Rotisserie / pizza oven combo for the kettle.
        2. A new wooden pizza peel
        3. Tripod work lamp so I can grill when it's dark.
        4. Amazon gift card that I think I'm going to use on a Drip EZ prep tub.
        5. Walmart gift card to be used to restock charcoal in the spring...

Of course, I am working today and tomorrow, and rain is being forecasted for the following 4 days, so it may be a little while before I can play with the new toys...
That's ok. we still desperately need the rain

I received a wireless thermometer, rubs and a pizza tool that makes it easier to spin a pie in the wood oven. Away from cooking came new flies that are totally different than anything that I have seen, more of a molded process not tied. I'm either going to scare the hell out of them or catch like crazy. To me they look fantastic but that doesn't count.

              1. Wife and I got a Solo Stove Prime gas-powered pizza oven. Perfect since we will be remodeling our kitchen in January and will be doing a bit of cooking outside. So I will soon be hitting up the Pizza recipes on AmazingRibs.
              2. Got a William-Sonoma gift card.
              3. Got a cookbook, "Bayou", Feasting through the Seasons of a Cajun Life by Melissa M. Martin

I got some of the competition probes for my Fireboard and an amazing selection of spice rubs from the Silk Road Spice Merchants (Great little online spice shop in Western Canada). Kind of funny in a way, I turned my family onto the Silk Road and now we have a family obsession with their spices. My absolute favourite is the Inca Fire Salt, contains Cummin and Habanero pepper powder, simply amazing on eggs.

I got 3 Jim Beam branded CI skillets and a ThermoWorks Billows from my Secret Santa. From my wife I received a copy of Sean Brock's "Heritage" cookbook because she knows I've wanted it for a while but kept putting off buying it in favor of cookbooks we BOTH wanted. My sister sent us a beautiful gift box from the Di Bruno Brothers Italian market.

My lord, I forgot about the SRF steak pack that my nephew brought over for us last night. Two RR Ranch strips, two RR Ranch top sirloin “baseball” steaks!

I got an amazing handmade charcuterie board and a set of cheese knives from my Pit SS. I also got a Carhartt BBQ Apron and my dad made me a 28x18 carving board. I did well!

I was sent this fantastic book called Pure Pork Awesomeness. It's by Top Chef Kevin Gillespie with our very own David Joachim.

It's a very well done, aesthetically pleasing, book. A joy to read through. It's all about.. well obviously pork. Everything pork. It starts out explaining hog raising, hog breeds and breeding, and the differences between commodity and pasture raised pork. It discusses slicing, seasoning, and recipes recipes recipes galore. Fantastic book. Very highly recommended.

That book is great, I have it and the older version I gifted when I got the new one. It has proved itself useful in our house at least twice on last minute cooks, of course.
