    Portable outdoor light

The spotlight close to the deck is pointed close to the grill. The griddle is next to the grill, but the non-detachable lid blocks the spotlight. I discovered this the first time I used the griddle after the time change.

Now I'm lookin' for a light for the griddle. I'd like one on some kind of stand and at least 5' tall. It will have to be at least 3' from the griddle.

I've looked on Amazon and there are tons of them. Most have 3 heads, but I don't think I need that many?? The ones I saw with 2 heads do not list the height, but look to be much shorter. I know some here have lights similar to what I want. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You're right, everything on Amazon seems to be a three-head design of some sort, which is way too unwieldy for grilling.

This is what you are looking for:

I got it a year ago off Amazon and it is perfect, but I can't find anything like it anymore. It was marketed as a camping light. It gets its power from a USB battery (I use a 6 maH one, which you can just barely see under the tripod.)

I am really surprised I don't see pages and pages of these things. They just vanished!

Walmart carries them. "Camping light on tripod" The second and third one above look identical to the one I have, including the on/off switch mid-way down the cord.

These things are junk, but get-the-job-done junk. Buy on price. (if you look carefully at my image, you'll see some blue stuff between the LED light and the top of the tripod. The ball joint failed, so I hold it in place with tape now.)

This is the particular battery I use. It is not dedicated to the light and is a bit overkill, but I can usually get 3-4 grilling sessions out of a single charge (and that is with leaving the light on all the time).

Any quality USB 5v power source will work....even those USB to AC adapters if you wanted to run the light off of AC power.

Thanks - I already have a battery that lives in my backpack when traveling.

I was looking for something similar a while back ... and remembered that I had an old (retired) DeWalt flexible flood/flashlight out in the garage. I replaced its bulb with an LED (which REALLY improved battery life), found and charged a couple of equally old NiCad batteries, and just for luck bought an inexpensive adapter so that I could use my newer Lithium Ion batteries if necessary. I still have to find something to set it on, but then it works great (and they can be found (cheap!) on eBay):

I have one of these with batteries in my wood shop that I never use. Why didn’t I think of using it by the grill? Duh!!!! 🙄 🤦‍♂️

Do you have any details to share on the LED conversion?

Jfrosty27 - I found an LED substitute for the original bulb. This: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075V...b_b_asin_title

If you want a lot of light:

I'm going to be adding this one for a tabletop alternative that I can take camping

I bought some inexpensive portable LEDs with batteries and magnets. If you have enough light everywhere else, these might do the trick. I still have mine, and they still work after a few years. Here is the link to the AR web page. $15 for a pair, if you buy, try to buy from the AR links. 👍😎

This pair of weather-resistant LED grill lights feature flexible goosenecks that allow the user to aim the light in virtually any direction.
