I’ve been cooking for 50 years, and this is useless for me. Everything just gets stuck in the holes and in-between them.

I have used the left side with parmesan cheese to get a fine grate, almost like a zest. It crumbles on the outside - not through the holes. Don't know of any use for the right.

I use the left for nutmegs.

That side is for hard cheeses. The right side gives a rougher size, the left a finer size.

Yeah, I know what it’s SUPPOSED to be for, but it’s never worked for me.

Use it for corns and cracked skin on your heals. Grate exfoliater.

        A microplane is better.

I use both of those. Left side for hard cheeses like parm. ( I also use a micro planer as well) the right side I use for regular cheese, when I want finer shredded for tacos, and cheese toppings for hot dogs, and to get a good frico edge on Detroit pizzas.

Yeah, all I ever get is product stuck to the grater, more than I actually get to use. I use my microplane grater for Parmesan, nutmeg, etc.

Ginger and horseradish. Pro tip, lay a piece of saran wrap over it before you grate with it. Pull it off, and all the ginger or horseradish comes right off with it.

Doesn’t that get plastic into the ginger/horseradish?

That side is for finely grated Parmesan cheese. The grind type that is like in the green can. I agree that the cheese tends to stick to the box but a toothpick or chopstick running diagonal between the holes will knock it all out.

I tend to only use the left side.

Same here. I’ve tried it, but to me it’s useless. If I need to grind smaller stuff (nutmeg) or harder (parmesan) I use a microplanar.

It gets the blood flowing... otherwise I rarely use the box grater.

This is all I've seen it used for myself.

I saw my grandmother and mother use that particular side of the box grater for zesting orange or lemon peel when baking. I think it could also be used to punish bad children.

Ginger and Horseradish. It also works well for Chaga. (Spelling?)
