Finamill - Some Not So Good News

Max Good fzxdoc Tagged you folks about this. I bought my Finamill in February this year. I have used it quite frequently, and only have 2 spices loaded into the pods - Sea Salt and Black Peppercorn. Yesterday, the grinder mechanism in the Sea Salt pod broke. It uses a plastic shaft to attach the ceramic grinding wheel to the part that the Finamill uses to turn that wheel. The wheel is what you adjust to get coarse or fine grinds. It snapped off and dumped the Sea Salt into a dish I was making rendering that dish trash bait.

While it supposedly comes with a 2-year warranty, the bad news is that there are no replacement pods of ANY type (they make several types) available for me to order. Not on Amazon or Finamill's own website, not any other reseller. I did email their customer service about this, but they are only opened M-F, 8-5 Pacific. I'll try calling tomorrow, but something seems amiss with the business. I'll let you know what I find out, or whether they respond.

Please keep us updated. Hopefully they're able to take care of you during business hrs and they have product on hand for warranty issues.

I've had mine for a year, most often with the same two loads you use. The salt is more difficult to grind than the pepper, but, so far, mine has held up well. I look forward to your follow up, it would be a shame if they go under, I use it almost daily.

I also bought the product earlier this year----no problems yet----use often. Am interested to see how they respond to your inquiry.

Here’s a novel solution. If you want I’ll see if I can machine you a new shaft out of aluminum and install it. This is exactly the kind of thing I like to try to fix. It won’t cost you a thing and I’ll get a day’s entertainment from it. Let me know and I’ll PM a shipping address.

GolfGeezer That’s fine I’m glad they’re standing behind their product. Your post has inspired me though. I’m going to try to design and machine my own pepper mill. It should be fun!

I am very happy to report that Finamill contacted me via email this morning. After supplying them with my Amazon order number, they are shipping me a new pod!

fzxdoc Thank you for the link. I decided to also order a couple of extra pods, not only due to this issue, but to have some other spice options ready for use. Hopefully atbbq actually has some available. It wea hard to tell from their site about availability.

PS. Finamill support also commented that they will have new stock available later this month.
