Anyone have a high pressure misting system on their patio
I live in Boise Idaho. We typically get a few days over 100 degrees each year. This year has been worse than most. I've been thinking of buying a high-pressure misting system for the patio. We had one years ago that just hooked up to the hose bib, but that just got people wet. I am talking a system with a 1000 psi pump that will probably cost at least $1500.
Does anyone here have one of those high-pressure misting systems? If so, is it worth the expense? Also, if you like what you got, what brand is it? Thanks all. Grill on...
Yes, but just like evaporative coolers they only work best with low humidity. If your humidity is low, no one gets wet even with low pressure. I can't recall the system, but it wasn't worth it for us as we lived where the humidity was high.
We are in a high desert here. We'll occasionally see single digit relative humidity in the summer. Very low humidity. Still, the box store system that just hooked up to the hose bib got the patio and people wet.
What is the higher pressure supposed to accomplish? Smaller droplets? As has been said, the humidity will determine any evaporative cooler's effectiveness. They're useless in someplace like Houston, but really effective in Albuquerque (I've lived in both places). I'd guess that in Boise they'd also be pretty effective, and wouldn't require especially high pressures. All that said, you can count on summers only getting hotter, so the investment you do make will be put to use for sure.

My buddy had one at his house, that was pressurized. He ended up having some issues with it that caused some damage to where the water was connected to the tank. But it was a fine mist and definitely cooled his west facing back patio.
they also have portable power mister at their lake house, the mist was pretty fine but it would accumulate on areas. But it did cool down the area.
We have friends here in Alabama that have that on their patio. It just gets everyone and everything wet if he leaves it on long enough to be useful. Probably due to our high humidity most summers.
IdahoJim - Sorry such a late response. We have a fan in FL with the misters on it. They produce a spray cloud in FL because we have really high humidity all the time, even winter stays at 50%+β¦ They are not expensive, and in a very low humidity environment, I bet it would work well. Itβs also portable so we can place it far enough away to not get wet, but still feel cooler.
Ours looks like this, but there are other more powerful ones.
We have a low pressure humidity system. Being 100 yards from the water. every few years we have an extremely low pressure humidity system, and the tide raises in the backyard so we just put our bathing suit on. ππ
I bought a misting pedestal fan for my patio. I ended up clogging all but one misting head up with some sort of marine grade sealant I had left over from a boat project because with all the misters running it was more like a mini-tropical storm than a refreshing cooling breeze. Quite wet. And even with only one mister running it was still soggy. If I moved the fan far enough away to solve the wetness problem then it really did not cool as well as just running the fan without water.
But I live in South Florida, where low humidity is still high if you live someplace like Prescott Arizona.
Im not sure how much better a high pressure pump would work, but is it worth it? $1500 is quite a bit. If the patio is covered I would just go with installing some outdoor ceiling fans and call it a day. You could also get some drop down fabric panels with windows and a portable AC. As a bonus there a patio heater could be run during the winter. Might need multiple heaters though.

SmokeyGator Ryobi made a portable called Artic Cove. It ran on the 18Volt batts and sat on a 5 gallon bucket of water. Also hooked to a garden hose. It was a soaker as well but really nice on the back porch on a hot day. Appx $65.
I think that is what I have. Only it is not the 18v bucket top thing, its the 120vac thing. MUCH higher air flow. But..........yea it just did not work very well for me. At least not with the water on.
Frankly, I'm not that impressed. It's like other fans people mentioned. It gets you wet. If you move it far enough away, you don't get wet but it doesn't really cool much. It's also LOUD when you set the speed to something that somewhat works. I wanted to return it, but the wife said no. Now it's another thing taking up space in my garage...
