    16 mesh black pepper mill

Other than purchasing pre-ground, are there pepper mills adjustable enough to give a precision grind? As opposed to more coarse or more fine.

I wasn't fortunate enough to get a freebie, but I did get in on the early discounted purchases. They have one for salt, too.

If you happen to take yours apart and can't get it back together, there is a video on YouTube. The written instructions that came with mine were not adequate. They may be providing better ones now.

yakima - I don't think so, but there may have been something in the directions. You could always contact and ask.

I also have one. Best pepper mill I’ve ever owned. As said above it’s pricey. But I think it’s worth the cost.

I am very happy with my $20 electric coffee grinder for grinding tellicherry peppercorns into ground pepper. It is great for rubs.

I have a Krups steel burr coffee mill which is perfect, and a couple of manual pepper mills which work fine, can get fairly coarse. But I sure cannot give any estimate as to actual mesh size. And I don't believe that the Mannkitchen cannon has precise settings either. I can continue to live with ambiguity. If I trip across some ground 16 mesh, could get it in order to have a size standard.

Try this its within a 100th of the correct mesh size. Mine came in a 2 pack from amazon. 🔥🔥🐿️ Click image for larger version

There are indeed burr grinders sufficiently accurate and precise … but they tend to be for coffee (not a problem for grinding pepper) … and the really good ones can be pretty expen$$$ive. Good luck finding what you’re looking for. I’ll be watching to see what you find, if only because I’m not yet prepared to sacrifice one of my Rancillio grinder$$$. Yet.

Now I have to look up Rancilio. Yikes. And for you to refer to them in the plural!
      An unintended rabbit hole.

I looked into Rancilio enuff to conclude that their products make the Mannkitchen look like a Ford Pinto.

yakima - it’s a long story (not an interesting one) but yes, I have two Rancilio Rocky grinders … one with a doser (won’t make that mistake again) and one without. The doser one might someday find itself sacrificed as a pepper mill. Might. But I’m not quite there yet.

I'll patiently wait, yakima , until you finish exploring all of the pertinent rabbit holes and come up with the answer. Then I'll cash in on your findings. Thanks in advance.

Until then, I'll continue to purchase 16 mesh pepper or use a spice grinder if a fresh grind is really essential. My spice grinder results run from powder to whole peppercorns in the same batch with a few pulses. I'd have to buy a set of sieves to get the grinds sorted out and even I'm not that OCD.

Those steel cloth sieves bring back memories of chemistry quantitative analysis labs back in the day, Bkhuna .

Wouldn't you have to have at least two size sieves? One that would pass anything smaller than 16 mesh and one that would catch anything larger than 16 mesh?

Correct RonB, if I was using a set of sieves for materials testing I would report % finer. And that how I would write my spec too. 🔥🔥🐿️

I went with this after seeing the review on the Free Side. Works like a champ, plus easy to use one-handed, even switching from the salt pod to the pepper pod.

Woah…that’s slick! My concern is that I’d end up buying a pod for every whole spice in my cabinet and grind everything fresh…wait, maybe that’s not a problem!

GolfGeezer , I've had that grinder in my Amazon "Save for Later" list for months now, ever since someone else here mentioned it. Let us know how you like it.

If you do get it, be sure to also get one of mill holders as the pods sit with the grinder side down, thus there is spice that falls out while just sitting on your counter. I’ll post a link to the one I got in a bit.

fzxdoc Good morning Kathryn. I’d recommend getting these instead.
Peugeot embraced the industrial age at the beginning of the 19th century (1840) with the steel industry. In 1840, Peugeot launched the first coffee grinder, to be followed by pepper and salt grinders. Peugeot grinding mechanisms carry a lifetime warranty. It was not before 1886 that Peugeot started the production of bi

I've had an eye on your stealthy high-priced tricks for a while now, PJ. I couldn't figure out, though, whether hoovarmin was a cohort or a challenger to your crown. Thanks for sorting that out for me.

Thanks for the laughs, too. It's always such a hoot to see what you or Dave come up with.

Seriously go to Peugeot, their mills are terrific and very reasonable considering how fantastic they are. I have 5 of their mills 3 for pepper, one for salt, and one for nutmeg. 🔥🔥🐿️

Holy Pepper Mill! A simple pepper question, which no one has really answered, evolves into gas chromatograph column packing then to chemistry quantitative analysis then to luxury Lalique tableware. The only missing items are global warming and world peace.

One constructive outcome will be a new battery for my calipers.

This place is interesting, even if crazy.

You are not going to find a consumer pepper mill that can give you exactly one particular mesh size.
In mass production the corns are first hammer milled, timing set to produce a range of desired grinds, and then passed through a bank of sieves so each size can be sorted out. Even then the specific grind will actually be in a small range around the desired size because the grounds falling through the sieves are not a uniform shape after hammering. It is not cost effective for firms like Tones or McCormick to process beyond this point.

Well..., my quantitative analysis suggests going to Tractor Supply for a 50 lb bag of cattle salt/mineral for around $10. Not recommended if you are heavily lactating. Crack some additional pepper, in a bag, with your hammer (hammer milled), if you wish. Make ice cream, melt snow, pack your digestive column. Be alert for gas. Don't bother to pass anything thru a sieve.

      Showing myself out.

I’ve got an old crank pepper mill for fresh, but for rubs I always use pre-ground. Costco brand coarse ground black pepper has been serving me well for many years.

Well, GolfGeezer I pulled the trigger on the FinaMill--10% off on Amazon. I found one of the FinaMill brand triangular trays on another website (15% off which helped with the shipping), so I got that as well.

So you can sleep well, tonight, GolfGeezer, knowing you helped to lighten my wallet. My husband thanks you. Not.
