    Gloves?

Which gloves do you use to handle hot meat or hot pans?

    #2
I typically use a thin cotton glove liner under a nitrile glove for those types of tasks. It works especially well when pulling pork, but I can also handle hot cooking grates with them too.

I have some Grill Heat Aid gloves that I really like. I had some rubber coated hot gloves but they got stiff as a cow with rigor mortis.

I'd say that sounds like your brisket but I don't want to get banned from the site.

Now you know why I serve mostly chopped brisket. Haha

Nothin' fancy. Welder's gloves. Cheap, effective, and very effective.

Welder's gloves is all I use to handle hot metal. I have these long ones and these short ones. To handle hot meat, I use these silicone gloves.

Meathead how do you clean the welding gloves that you use to handle food?

You put the gloves on then wash your hands while wearing them. Then let them sit in the sun to dry. Works great.

I use Heat Guardian gloves for working around fire, and Artisan Griller gloves for working with food/liquids.

For pulling pork and handling hot poultry after removing them from the grill/smoker, I use these gloves, Ruf Flex Lite. So I don't have to wash them each time, I cover them with a size Large nitrile glove. Finally no more burned fingers. They're much more flexible than some of the grill heat gloves that I've purchased. They allow for more of the fine motor skilz needed to pick off just the right piece of bark for a tasty chomp while the rest of the family is waiting for their food.

Hmmm, never thought of using large nitrile gloves over my hots gloves....

Good options here. I usually use a pair of my nitrile gloves for handling hot meat quickly, such as moving my butts off the smoker to (very) nearby foil to wrap for the faux cambro. If I've set up properly, it's a quick move and I don't get burned. The silicone gloves only come out if for some reason I need to hold hot meat for more than a couple seconds, which rarely happens, but they don't provide much insulation. I need to get some XL nitrile to go over my welder's gloves. Thanks everyone.

Thanx all for the input. As it turns out, I scored a pair of Masterbuilt carve and Serve gloves from Cabalas bargain bin yesterday. I'm sure they are good enough for handling hot meat, but I will have to test them for anything hotter.

Most gloves are great for pulling hot meat off the grill, but it's a special kind of glove that allows enough manual dexterity when it comes to carving and pulling. I smoked a couple of 6 lb chickens a couple of months ago and pulled them with just double nitrile gloves on. My finger tips were tender for a week. Of course, I'm a delicate flower, that's what I tell my husband. I don't think he believes it, though.

                Kathryn,

Thanks for the information on the gloves. Can you also use these gloves to pull meat off the grill?

                Thanks,
                Sandy

Hey Katheryn - after you put on the first pair, try filling the second pair with water before you put them on. That should keep your pinkys cool...

I scored some "ov gloves" at walmart for $2.50 each. There were in the "as seen on tv" clearance isle. I plan to use them under nitrile gloves for pulling pork. I haven't tried it yet, but will post how it works when I do.
