    New searing product on Kickstarter

Has anyone seen these in action yet. This would be fun to try. Does anyone know of other brands out there that professionals use in the industry? I would like to get some input on the quality of this Kick starter product. Thanks!! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...or-the-perfect

Sign up and go for it! Let us know how it works... I went for the Roccbox on a kick starter type product. Hope to have it sometime in June and will post some picts. and thoughts on it.

Looks very cool. But I caution on kickstarter campaigns. I have signed up for several, and never heard from them or my money again. Remember the remote thermometer probes without wires? Shipping in January? Crickets.

So did I, But I have faith they will come. This deal is $513.00 US a bit steep for a on the come bet.

Meater is now purportedly scheduled for July. I think several of us are in the same boat.

I just read about the Meater for the first time yesterday. If I'd seen the Kickstarter campaign I probably would have thrown money at it, too. In any case if it actually shows up I'll get on in a second.

In the restaurant biz, we call that a salamander. They sear ok, but are a bear to keep clean. They have their uses, but can be a fire hazard if used incorrectly. For melting cheese, crusting creme brûlée,etc., they are fine. It would be way cheaper to just buy a hibachi or something to use for just searing. Just my 2 cents.

Nah, I like my Slow N' Sear. But I LOVE my Lodge Hibachi, makes a wonderfully sear steak unlike any other. It's one of my most prized possessions.

I love all my Lodge cast iron. Regular or enameled. Best stuff ever.

Yeah, that's definitely a salamander. Another thing they don't mention is that if you're cooking steak on this at 1700 degrees in your kitchen, you better have a pretty good vent.

If you scroll down the page they do mention it's not for indoor use.

Yeah, I missed that. Doesn't really look like something you'd use outside. In any case, I'm not buying one.

Looks like Otto hasn't learned about reverse sear yet!

We often get asked to promote Kickstarter campaigns. We have an official company policy. When it is on the market we will test it and review it, but not until then.

That's a great policy! Hard to review something you've never seen.

At least Meater somewhat regularly updates us with progress reports. I feel pretty good about those folks.

Patiently waiting for my Meaters - I'm in no hurry. I appreciate the regular updates. I like what I saw in the video, looks like they can handle the temp on a reverse sear - that's great news.

The Meater folks seem legit but the delayed experience with them will keep me from backing another Kickstarter project.

Guessing you haven't backed a lot in the past... very rarely do Kickstarter campaigns meet their dates. The problem of course is too many peopel don't know the real timeline and set the wrong expectations. I usually add 6 months to the estimate just for my own edification.

Meathead Yes it sure puts a bad taste in your mouth from putting this money out and waiting, with the chance of never seeing it.

But In all fairness to Meater, they spent 10 months in the original design, research and development before even launching the Kickstarter Campaign to raise a $100,000 goal.

They ended up raising $1,251,486 pledged from 9,737 backers to help bring this project to life. Can you say Game Changer?

This changed the original game plan from the original forecast with how this was going to be built with better components as they said along with adding stretch goals.
So 6 months of researching better components and changes in the way it is going to be manufactured because of volume is Not unrealistic in my book.
I believe they only pushed the date out once after the overwhelming response to their launch and have been keeping backers up to date of progress on a regular basis from the beginning.
Personally I am kinda excited to help support this idea as I also signed up to back the Slow-N-Sear (originally) to help bring these to life.
              With fingers crossed,Dean

Are you referring to the Meater, Meathead? They've been posting updates quite a bit.

I have backed about 30 kickstarter projects and only failed to receive one where the seller went away and never came back. I have a few pending, but there is communication which I'm good with.

But yeah... first rule of Kickstarter NEVER trust the delivery date. People hitting their dates is an exception not the rule. I usually add about 4-6 months... most of the projects either sell more than they thought changing the production cycle or else just have no clue on the manufacturing process and underestimate severely.
